President Museveni Assures Lyantonde of Peaceful Elections, Pledges Roads and Water Improvements

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Thursday evening addressed a large campaign rally in Lyantonde District, where he underscored the importance of peace during the electoral period, outlined progress on key infrastructure projects, and reiterated his long-standing message that leadership must be rooted in service rather than personal gain.

Addressing supporters and local leaders, President Museveni warned against any attempts to foment violence or chaos during elections, assuring Ugandans that they should exercise their democratic right to vote without fear. He emphasized that Uganda’s hard-won stability would not be disrupted, noting that peace has been the foundation upon which generations have been born, educated, employed and able to raise families with dignity.

“The peace we enjoy today is not accidental,” the President said, adding that stability has enabled social and economic progress across the country. He urged citizens to safeguard this peace by rejecting violence and political intolerance, especially during the campaign season.

Infrastructure Progress and Road Works 

President Museveni reported significant progress on road infrastructure in the greater Lyantonde and cattle corridor region, highlighting ongoing works on the Mubende–Kabamba–Ntutsi–Sembabule road. He noted that the road is a critical link for trade, agriculture and movement of people, particularly for farmers and pastoral communities.

He further revealed that additional works are planned on the Ntutsi–Kashagama–Lyantonde road, as well as the Lyantonde–Rakai route. According to the President, improving road connectivity remains central to lowering transport costs, expanding markets for agricultural produce and supporting regional economic integration.

“These roads are not just tarmac; they are enablers of wealth creation,” he said, adding that better infrastructure directly supports government programs aimed at transforming subsistence households into participants in the money economy.

Water for the Cattle Corridor

The President also addressed the persistent challenge of water scarcity in parts of Lyantonde, Sembabule and Nyabushozi, particularly within the cattle corridor. He acknowledged the need to improve water units to support both human consumption and livestock, noting that reliable water supply is essential for livelihoods in pastoral and agro-pastoral communities.

He assured residents that government plans are in place to expand and upgrade water infrastructure in the region, as part of broader efforts to enhance resilience, productivity and public health.

Politics as Service

Turning to leadership values, President Museveni reminded political leaders that politics should be a platform for service, not an avenue for personal enrichment. He cautioned against treating leadership positions as jobs for money, urging leaders at all levels to prioritize the needs of the people.

“Leadership is about solving problems for the population,” he said, calling on elected officials and aspirants to focus on delivering tangible results rather than empty promises.

The Lyantonde rally formed part of President Museveni’s wider campaign engagements across the region, aimed at mobilizing support while taking stock of ongoing government programs. The event drew supporters from Lyantonde District and neighboring areas, reflecting continued interest in issues of peace, infrastructure development and service delivery.

As the country approaches the next general elections, the President reiterated his commitment to maintaining stability, accelerating infrastructure development and addressing key livelihood challenges, particularly in rural and pastoral communities.

The rally concluded with renewed calls for unity, calm and active participation in the democratic process, as Uganda charts its path forward.
