President Museveni Launches Ankole Sub-Region Campaign in Isingiro, Highlights Peace and Infrastructure Commitments

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni officially kicked off his Ankole Sub-Region campaign in Isingiro District, calling on residents to reflect on the journey Uganda has traveled—from decades of conflict to an era of stability, progress, and organized political engagement.

Addressing thousands of enthusiastic supporters, Museveni said he was grateful to God that he could now traverse the area in peace wearing the symbolic yellow of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), instead of the years when his visits were marked by war.

“In 1972, 1979, and 1985, whenever I passed through this area, I was fighting,” he said. “Today, we meet peacefully, singing and dancing. I thank God and the NRM for restoring this peace.”

His reflections tied directly into the central message of his 2026–2031 Manifesto: consolidating peace as the foundation for socio-economic transformation.

The President emphasized that the stability ushered in by the NRM over nearly four decades has been the key enabler of national development—from education reforms and rural electrification to improved health services and infrastructure expansion.

He reminded the crowd that without peace, no meaningful progress can take root. “When people are secure, they can build, invest, farm, trade, and educate their children,” he said.

In Isingiro, a district long known for its agricultural potential and cross-border trade with Tanzania, Museveni highlighted government achievements in road infrastructure that have opened up markets and improved mobility.

He cited the completion of the Mbarara–Kikagate–Isingiro Road, as well as the Kagitumba–Kabale–Ntungamo corridor—projects that have eased movement for farmers and traders while boosting regional integration.

The President also listed several remaining road projects that his government is committed to addressing: Kikagate–Kitwe–Mirama Hill Road Kabingo–Rwekubo–Rugaaga–Rwangabo–Endiinzi–Magabi–Rakai–Mutukula Road Kabingo–Mutukula Road

“These roads are important for our people and for trade. We shall work on all of them,” Museveni assured.

Ahead of the rally, the President met district leaders and the local NRM structures to discuss service delivery and ongoing development programmes. The leaders thanked him for the continued support toward Isingiro’s transformation, particularly in agriculture, water access, and cross-border trade infrastructure.

The district leadership reiterated their commitment to mobilizing communities around government programmes such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, and youth livelihood initiatives.

Museveni used the rally to outline key pillars of the new Manifesto, anchored on:

Deepening wealth creation at household level

Consolidating peace and security Expanding industrialization and agro-processing

Strengthening infrastructure, especially energy and transport

Enhancing service delivery in education and health

He said these priorities directly respond to the needs of regions like Ankole, where commercial agriculture and cross-border trade have become essential engines of economic growth.

The rally drew large crowds from the district and the wider sub-region, with supporters expressing gratitude for the transformation the area has experienced. Many residents praised the improved road network, better access to social services, and the district’s growing profile as a commercial agricultural hub.

As President Museveni continues his Ankole Sub-Region campaign trail, his message remains consistent: peace, hard work, and continued investment in infrastructure are the pillars that will propel Uganda into the next phase of development.
