Two Arrested for being in Possession of Unauthorized Examination Materials-UNEB
Police and scout vigilance pins two from Bujjuri Secondary School, where a one 31 year old kambugu Livingston, and a 27 Onyoto Thomas biology teacher have been found with a copy of chemistry examination paper inside the laboratory where the examination was being conducted from.
Announced by the public relations officer, UNEB, Ms. Jennifer Kalule Musamba, the suspects were found with a copy of a chemist recognition paper inside the laboratory, indicating they were preparing for the same examination.
Speaking to journalists on Monday, in kampala, One of the suspects, Onyoto Thomas, was masquerading as a teacher of the school and will be also charged for impersonation. The two suspects were handed over to the police for further investigation. However, If convicted, they will be charged under Section 25 of the UNEB and act for unauthorized possession of examination paper, materials or information.
Kalule also included that despite a slow start due to rain, the examinations began smoothly last week, with no major challenges in the distribution process. But in the issue of handling of teacher absences and whistleblowing there were a few teacher absences, but these were managed on a case by case basis by the teams.
“An incident involving a whistleblower reporting cheating activities in a WhatsApp group named, ‘National preparation for cheating in national UNEB examinations’ was reported to the police.”
Investigations revealed that two staff members from St Mary's Junior School in kapeeka Nakaseke district were involved in the cheating activities, added Kalule.
The two culprits, Ejagu Moses and Juuko Denis , were found to be in possession of student commission papers for various subjects.
“Ejagu Moses 32 years, one of the culprits, was masquerading as a lab examiner and had formed multiple WhatsApp groups to share alleged examination papers and by the time of their arrest,” she said.
Moses pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 36 months in prison by the chief magistrate in Soroti, while the co accused, Juuko Denis, 36 years old pleaded not guilty and was remanded until October 30th 2024.
