President Museveni Highlights Development Achievements, Calls for Continued Support as He Campaigns in Nebbi District

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and First Lady Maama Janet Museveni on Saturday addressed a large crowd of enthusiastic supporters in Nebbi District as part of his ongoing campaign trail across the West Nile sub-region. The President used the rally to reflect on Uganda’s remarkable transformation since independence, outlining key development milestones that the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government has achieved in education, health, and infrastructure.

Speaking passionately, President Museveni recalled the state of education during his youth, emphasizing how far the country has come in expanding access to learning.

“In 1961, I was at Ntare School, and there were many boys from West Nile. They came to Ntare because there was not a single A’Level school in the entire Northern and Eastern Uganda. There were only six A’Level schools in Uganda. So, when I see eight A’Level schools in Nebbi alone, as a district in West Nile, I am very happy because I know where we came from and where we are heading,” Museveni said.

The President noted that the expansion of secondary and tertiary education institutions across the country is a direct result of deliberate NRM policies aimed at promoting inclusive access to quality education. He attributed this progress to government investments in Universal Primary Education (UPE), Universal Secondary Education (USE), and the continued support for community-founded schools.

Health Services Expansion

Turning to the health sector, President Museveni commended Nebbi District for its progress in healthcare delivery. He revealed that out of the sixteen sub-counties in the district, ten already have health centres, leaving only six yet to be fully equipped with similar facilities.

“We are committed to ensuring that the remaining six also receive facilities,” he pledged, assuring residents that government’s goal is to achieve universal access to health services even in the most remote areas.

The President emphasized that investments in healthcare, including the construction of hospitals, recruitment of medical personnel, and extension of essential services, remain central to the NRM’s human capital development agenda.

Electricity Connectivity in West Nile

Museveni further expressed satisfaction with the progress in extending electricity to West Nile, describing it as a major step toward industrialization and rural transformation.

“I am glad that finally West Nile is linked to the national grid all the way to Koboko,” he said, adding that the completion of the regional electricity interconnection marks an end to decades of reliance on isolated power systems in the area.

He explained that the government’s continued investment in energy infrastructure, such as the Karuma and Ayago hydropower projects, aims to ensure reliable and affordable power for households, schools, health centres, and small industries — all critical to job creation and economic empowerment.

Appeal for Continued Support

President Museveni used the rally to remind the people of Nebbi and the entire West Nile region that the journey toward achieving a High-Income Middle Status economy requires continuity and unity under the NRM.

“I, therefore, ask the people of Nebbi to vote for the NRM to enable us continue with our path to achieving a High-Income Middle Status,” he appealed.

He reiterated that the NRM government’s long-term vision is anchored on peace, socio-economic transformation, industrialization, and equitable development across all regions of Uganda.

The rally was also attended by several political leaders and NRM mobilizers from across the region, who praised President Museveni’s leadership for prioritizing infrastructure and social services in West Nile. The crowd cheered as the President outlined government’s plans for the next phase of development, including better road connectivity, improved agricultural production, and youth empowerment programs.

As the campaign tour continues, President Museveni’s message remains clear — consolidating the gains made over the years and steering Uganda toward prosperity through stability, service delivery, and inclusive growth.
