President Museveni Rallies Nakawa Voters at MUBS, Calls for Local Leadership, Youth Jobs and Protection of NRM Gains

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on 7th January 2025 took his campaign trail to Makerere University Business School (MUBS), Nakawa, where he delivered a strong message centred on local leadership, youth employment and safeguarding the gains achieved under the National Resistance Movement (NRM).

Addressing a large crowd of supporters drawn from Nakawa Division and surrounding areas, President Museveni said the NRM’s appeal to the people of Nakawa is grounded in practical leadership that understands community-specific challenges and works hand in hand with wananchi to address them. He emphasised that effective leadership begins at the local level and argued that NRM flag bearers are best positioned to translate national policies into tangible solutions for urban communities like Nakawa.

“The people of Nakawa need leaders who understand their issues and can work directly with wananchi to find solutions. That is why NRM flag bearers remain the right choice,” the President told the gathering.

A major highlight of the rally was President Museveni’s focus on youth employment, which he described as a priority for the current and next phase of Uganda’s development. He outlined government interventions aimed at addressing unemployment through targeted youth funds, skilling programmes, and deliberate efforts to attract foreign direct investment (FDI).

The President explained that job creation would be driven largely by expanding opportunities in manufacturing, industry and services, noting that these sectors have the capacity to absorb large numbers of young people if supported with skills, capital and markets. He reiterated government commitment to vocational training and practical skills development, particularly for urban youth, to ensure they are equipped to take advantage of emerging economic opportunities.

According to Museveni, attracting investors into value-adding industries remains central to Uganda’s strategy for sustainable employment, stressing that production and industrial growth are the real foundations of jobs and household incomes.

President Museveni also used the Nakawa rally to issue a political call to action ahead of the 15th January elections, urging voters to reject what he described as misinformation from detractors and “ideologically bankrupt leaders.” He cautioned residents against being misled by groups he said lack clear ideas for wealth creation and national development.

He appealed to the electorate to use their vote to “correct” this situation by supporting the NRM, which he credited with delivering peace, stability and economic progress over the years. Museveni argued that these achievements must be protected through continuity of leadership and policy direction.

“The gains we have made did not come by accident. They must be protected, and that responsibility lies with the voters,” he said.

The MUBS rally formed part of the President’s wider Kampala campaign engagements, targeting urban voters with messages tailored to employment, enterprise and service delivery. Nakawa, home to major educational institutions, industries and a youthful population, featured prominently in the President’s narrative on skills development and industrial growth.

As the rally concluded, President Museveni reaffirmed the NRM’s commitment to inclusive development, urging residents to back leaders who prioritise production, jobs and problem-solving over confrontation and empty rhetoric.

The Nakawa engagement underscored the President’s broader campaign theme: that Uganda’s future prosperity lies in local leadership, skilled youth and a strong, investment-driven economy, anchored by the NRM’s long-standing governance record.
