Echodu: Unity Among NRM Leaders Driving Peace and Development in Teso

Soroti, Uganda — The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Vice Chairperson for Eastern Region, Calvin Echodu, has emphasized the importance of unity among party leaders in safeguarding the peace, stability, and development that the Teso sub-region has enjoyed under the NRM government.

Speaking during a regional mobilization engagement in Soroti, Echodu underscored that the remarkable progress achieved in Teso over the past years rests on the foundation of peace and security restored by the NRM. He said sustaining this progress requires continued collaboration and unity of purpose among political, community, and opinion leaders.

“We are focused on unity of purpose,” Echodu said. “Like in any family, relationships must be nurtured. We may have different opinions, but when leaders share one vision, it brings people together. That is what is happening in Teso today — a shared commitment to peace, progress, and service to our people.”

The NRM Vice Chairperson recalled the turbulent years when Teso was ravaged by insecurity due to the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) insurgency, Karimojong cattle raids, and internal civil strife. He noted that thanks to the decisive leadership of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the UPDF’s commitment, peace was fully restored — enabling communities to rebuild and focus on economic growth.

“The NRM brought total peace to Teso after years of insecurity,” he said. “Our people can now move freely, farm productively, trade, and educate their children without fear. That peace must be protected at all costs, because without it, there can be no development.”

Echodu credited the region’s ongoing stability to strong cooperation between security agencies and local leaders, describing it as a community-driven model of peacekeeping. He pointed out that the NRM’s emphasis on security and community policing has made Teso one of the most stable and peaceful sub-regions in Eastern Uganda.

“Security is not just about soldiers and police,” Echodu explained. “It’s about people working together, being vigilant, and valuing the stability we have achieved. The NRM has provided that platform, and we must all play our part in safeguarding it.”

He also lauded the NRM Secretariat for its continued support to regional party structures, saying the strengthened coordination is fostering unity and improving service delivery. According to Echodu, the synergy between local leaders, the party secretariat, and the people is a sign of renewed political maturity within the NRM’s ranks in Teso.

“The NRM Secretariat and our structures are doing a fantastic job,” he said. “Their teamwork is producing results, and the unity we see today is helping us deliver even more for our people.”

Echodu further urged citizens to value and protect the visible development gains realized under the NRM government — including road infrastructure, health facilities, and education services. He noted that these are essential building blocks for sustained economic transformation.

“The development we are seeing — good roads, health centres, schools, and electricity — are results of peace and good leadership,” he said. “We must guard them jealously because they are the fruits of the stability that our government fought hard to achieve.”

In his remarks, Echodu also emphasized inclusivity, stating that the NRM is committed to empowering youth, women, and veterans to ensure broad-based participation in development programs. He said the party’s focus on these groups will strengthen its political base and guarantee that no one is left behind.

“The youth, women, and veterans are active and central to our agenda,” he said. “We are consolidating their participation so that by the next election cycle, they are even more empowered and ready to lead.”

Echodu concluded by reaffirming that the unity of purpose among leaders and the prevailing peace across Teso are the driving forces behind the region’s transformation.

“We are moving in the right direction,” he affirmed. “When we are united and at peace, there is nothing we cannot achieve.”

The NRM Vice Chairperson’s message echoes the ruling party’s broader agenda of consolidating peace, deepening unity, and accelerating socio-economic transformation across Uganda as the country prepares for the 2026 General Elections.
