President Museveni Rally in Kitagwenda Boosted by Endorsement from Mubarak Munyagwa’s Father
The event drew large numbers of enthusiastic NRM supporters, who were addressed first by respected elder Mzee Bruhan Sserunga, father of fellow presidential candidate Mubarak Munyagwa. In an unexpected but powerful endorsement, Sserunga urged the people of Kitagwenda to vote overwhelmingly for President Museveni to enable him to complete the development journey he embarked on in 1986. Sserunga: “Museveni Brought Peace to Uganda”
Kitagwenda District — President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Saturday kick-started his campaign activities in Kitagwenda with a rally at Kayomba Primary School, delivering a message centred on peace, security, and ongoing development projects in the region.
In his remarks, Sserunga praised the President for transforming Uganda from the instability of previous regimes into a peaceful nation. He reminded residents that earlier governments were marked by violence, insecurity, and economic collapse, contrasting that with the stability and progress the NRM has established.
He called on voters to safeguard these gains by rallying behind President Museveni in the upcoming election.
Museveni: “Peace Is the Foundation of Everything”
When he took to the podium, President Museveni began by thanking God for the opportunity to reunite with Sserunga, whom he described as a veteran comrade who understands the realities facing fishing communities and border districts.
The President emphasized that the people of Kitagwenda, who live close to the DR Congo, know the devastation that conflict can bring. He praised the joint efforts of the Local Defence Unit (LDU) and the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) in pushing back and defeating elements of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) in the region.
“Peace protects both lives and property,” Museveni said. “It is the foundation upon which development stands, and the NRM has worked hard to ensure Uganda remains secure.”
Key Development Projects Highlighted
A major highlight of the rally was Museveni’s announcement that government had secured funding for the Ibanda–Kagongo–Kabujogera–Kamwenge road, a strategic infrastructural project expected to open up markets, ease transport, and accelerate economic growth in Kitagwenda and surrounding districts.
The President also commended farmers in the area, noting that over 60 percent of households in Kitagwenda are now participating in the money economy—a mark of the growing adoption of commercial agriculture.
He encouraged residents to continue embracing enterprise, adding that he would address remaining concerns and local issues during his upcoming radio talk show in the district.
Museveni’s rally in Kitagwenda signals the start of a renewed push to consolidate support in the Tooro sub-region. The combination of endorsements from influential local leaders, reminders of the peace dividends under NRM rule, and concrete development commitments formed the core of his message.
As the 2026 electoral season intensifies, the President is positioning continuity as the key to completing Uganda’s long-term infrastructure, economic, and security agenda.
