"Museveni Awooma” Singer on the Run After Chaotic NRM Birthday Music Festival at Old Kampala SS

The celebrated “Museveni Awooma” hitmaker, Munamasaka Nsereko Emma, is reportedly on the run following a financial and organizational crisis that marred the NRM Mega Music Festival held on 15th September 2025 at Old Kampala Secondary School.

The event, organized under the Movement Awooma Combined Artistes Association  an umbrella body that unites all pro-NRM artistes  was meant to celebrate President Yoweri Museveni’s birthday and promote government achievements among the youth.

The highly publicized function attracted supporters from across the country and featured several musicians who identify with the ruling party’s cause.

However, what began as a joyous celebration ended in chaos when disagreements over unpaid service providers and logistical expenses erupted.

Eye-witnesses say the situation turned violent as some suppliers and event staff demanded immediate payment, accusing Munamasaka, who chaired the organizing team, of mismanaging funds.

Police from Old Kampala Station swiftly intervened to calm the situation and restore order.

Reports indicate that the altercation escalated later that evening as Munamasaka was allegedly attacked while returning from Kololo Airstrip, where he had attended President Museveni’s nomination event earlier that day. Sources close to him say the incident nearly cost him his life.

The Chief Guest, President Museveni who was represented by Hon. Persis Namuganza, Minister of State for Housing was expected to officially grace the celebration.

Despite the disorder that followed, the event had earlier showcased musical performances praising the NRM government’s programs and development agenda.

In a statement released through his aides, Munamasaka Nsereko Emma appealed to President Museveni for intervention, claiming that the debts and threats arising from the event have left him in a desperate situation.

“I organized this event with a good heart to honor the President and unite the artistes behind government programs, but now I am facing threats and debts that I cannot handle alone. I request for the President’s rescue,” he said.

As investigations continue, the Old Kampala Police have not issued an official statement regarding the incident.

Meanwhile, members of the Awooma Combined Artistes Association have called for calm and accountability within the group to protect the integrity of NRM-affiliated entertainers.

If confirmed, the incident highlights growing tensions among event organizers and artistes who have taken on government promotional roles, often facing challenges of funding, coordination, and accountability during high-profile political functions.
