SIRONKO DISTRICT — The National Resistance Movement (NRM) party leadership on Sunday intensified its grassroots mobilization drive in Sironko District as part of the ongoing nationwide campaign to consolidate support ahead of the 2026 General Elections.

The NRM National Treasurer, Hon. Amb. Barbara Nekesa Oundo, together with the NRM Deputy Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Rose Namayanja Nsereko, and the Director for Mobilisation, Cadre Identification, Recruitment and Placement, Hon. Rosemary Nansubuga Seninde, met with the NRM village-to-district mobilization teams in Sironko District.

The team first convened a meeting with NRM sub-county leaders at the Sironko District NRM office in Buyobo, before addressing a larger gathering of NRM leaders and supporters at Mafudu Playground, in what was described as a high-energy and unifying event for the ruling party.

Mobilizing for President Museveni and NRM Flag Bearers

Addressing the crowds at Mafudu, Hon. Amb. Barbara Nekesa emphasized that the village-based campaign programme is designed to consolidate grassroots support for NRM Presidential flag bearer, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, and all other NRM flag bearers at various levels.

“We are here to take our country forward. From 1962 to 1986, Uganda experienced political instability with several Presidents in a short time. Since 1986, under President Museveni and the NRM, we have enjoyed peace—this peace is the foundation of all development. Without peace, nothing can progress,” Nekesa said.

She called for peaceful electioneering and tolerance, urging Ugandans to maintain unity and reject divisive politics. Nekesa also applauded Sironko District NRM Chairperson, Sulaiman Mafabi Lumolo, for his mentorship and leadership in identifying and nurturing NRM flag bearers from the village to the district level.

“There is nothing wrong with mobilizing the already mobilized, especially when NRM commands over 90% support in Sironko,” Nekesa added, stressing the need for continued grassroots engagement despite the party’s dominant presence in the district.

Namayanja Calls for Party Discipline and Unity

Speaking at the same event, Rt. Hon. Rose Namayanja Nsereko cautioned NRM-leaning independents against undermining the party by running outside its structures.

“Those who claim to support NRM but contest as independents after losing in the primaries weaken our party. This behavior must stop,” she warned.

Namayanja urged leaders to foster unity, emphasizing that divisions within the party have in the past cost the NRM some constituencies.

“We often lose not because people reject NRM, but because of our internal disunity. We must stand together. The opposition cannot win without the support of NRM members,” she said while addressing sub-county chairpersons at the Buyobo NRM office.

The Deputy Secretary General commended Chairperson Sulaiman Mafabi Lumolo for his financial and moral commitment to the party, noting that he was the first individual in the district to establish a functioning NRM office. She further assured that the NRM Secretariat plans to open more offices in other districts to enhance coordination and service delivery.

Namayanja also lauded Hon. Amb. Barbara Nekesa Oundo for her effective stewardship as National Treasurer, which has ensured the smooth running of party operations across the country.

Calls for Unity Ahead of the President’s Visit

In his remarks, Sironko District NRM Chairperson, Sulaiman Mafabi Lumolo, appealed to the NRM Secretariat to facilitate a meeting between President Museveni and all those who lost in the party primaries before the President’s official campaign visit to Sironko.

“We need unity among flag bearers and those who lost in the primaries if we are to achieve 90% voter support for NRM in Sironko,” Lumolo said, noting that reconciliation at this stage would strengthen the party’s position in the district.

Strengthening the Grassroots for Victory 2026

The Sironko meeting marks another phase of the NRM Secretariat’s countrywide mobilization strategy, aimed at fortifying structures from the village to district level. The programme focuses on direct engagement with local leaders, harmonizing strategies, and ensuring that all NRM supporters are aligned behind President Museveni and other party candidates ahead of the 2026 General Elections.

Hon. Rosemary Nansubuga Seninde, in her role as Director of Mobilisation, reaffirmed the Secretariat’s commitment to empowering local mobilizers, identifying new cadres, and ensuring the NRM message reaches every household.

As the meeting concluded, the leaders echoed a unified message—peace, discipline, and teamwork—as the pillars upon which the NRM will secure another decisive victory in 2026.
