NRM’s Legacy of Stability Takes Center Stage at President Museveni’s Bushenyi Rally
The President opened his address by reflecting on a touching account shared by prominent businessman Hassan Bassajabalaba, who had narrated the tragic story of his friend in Sudan who lost his life and four daughters to rebel attacks. Museveni used the story as a powerful reminder of how fragile peace can be in nations torn apart by religious or political sectarianism.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has reaffirmed the central message of his 2026 presidential campaign—peace, stability, and socio-economic transformation—as he addressed thousands of supporters in Bushenyi District. The rally, attended by First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports Janet Kataaha Museveni and top NRM leaders, underscored the party’s long-standing argument that Uganda’s progress is rooted in the stability ushered in by the NRM government.
He noted that Uganda too had once been on the brink of similar chaos but credited the NRM’s governance philosophy—anchored on unity, fairness, and ideological clarity—for helping restore and preserve stability across the country.
“Supporting the NRM is supporting your own safety and the peace of our nation,” Museveni told the crowd, urging citizens to guard the peace achieved over the past decades.
Commitment to Infrastructure Renewal
The President also outlined key infrastructure priorities for Bushenyi and the wider Ankole sub-region. He pledged that his government would rehabilitate and rebuild critical road networks, including the Mbarara–Bushenyi road as well as the Kabwohe–Bugongi–Kitagata road.
Museveni emphasized that improved roads are essential for lowering the cost of transportation, boosting agricultural productivity, and opening markets for farmers—particularly in a region known for tea, bananas, and dairy production. The commitment drew applause from residents who have long advocated for improvements to the district’s road network.
Education Growth in Bushenyi
Highlighting the achievements of the NRM in human capital development, the President noted that Bushenyi has experienced remarkable growth in its education sector. The district now boasts:
16 government secondary schools
155 government primary schools
65 private secondary schools
Museveni said this expansion reflects the NRM’s long-term investment in Universal Primary Education (UPE), Universal Secondary Education (USE), and the overall drive to make education more accessible to all Ugandans. He urged parents to continue supporting children to stay in school, insisting that education remains a cornerstone of Uganda’s transformation agenda.
Responding to complaints from residents about frequent power blackouts, Museveni assured the public that the issue would be promptly investigated. He said Uganda’s electricity generation capacity is strong and stable, suggesting that the outages in Bushenyi might be due to disconnected or faulty power lines rather than a nationwide supply problem.
“I will check and resolve the issue,” he promised, noting that reliable electricity is vital for agro-processing, small industries, and household welfare.
Throughout the rally, Museveni stressed that the development gains enjoyed across the country are anchored in the peace the NRM fought to attain and continues to maintain. He urged Bushenyi residents to remain vigilant against divisive politics and to support leaders who prioritize stability and long-term progress.
The Bushenyi rally forms part of the President’s broader tour across the Ankole sub-region as he seeks to consolidate support ahead of the 2026 general elections. His message—centered on peace, development, and socio-economic empowerment—remains consistent with the NRM’s campaign theme and its historical legacy.
