President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni this afternoon wrapped up his Bukedi sub-region campaign trail with a major rally at Buwanda Primary School Grounds in Busia District, where he received an enthusiastic welcome from thousands of supporters. The event marked the final leg of his Bukedi engagements before crossing to the Busoga sub-region for another rally slated for later in the day in Bugiri District.
Addressing supporters, the President anchored his message on three central pillars—peace, health service expansion, and wealth creation—noting that these themes form the backbone of Uganda’s transformation under the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
Peace: “Our foundation and first gift to the people of Uganda”
President Museveni emphasized that the stability enjoyed across Uganda today is a direct product of deliberate and principled politics rooted in unity. Reflecting on Busia’s turbulent past, he recalled how communities suffered at the hands of rebels such as FOBA and the Holy Spirit Movement led by Alice Lakwena.
“Our NRM District Chairman reminded me of the people who were killed by FOBA and Lakwena. That is now history,” Museveni said. “This peace did not fall from the sky. It is a result of our political stance—politics of unity, not sectarianism.”
He underscored that national stability remains the bedrock of development, enabling progress in infrastructure, education, and social services across the country.
Health Sector: Upgrading Facilities to Meet the Population’s Needs
On health, the President outlined Busia District’s current infrastructure—which includes one general hospital, one Health Centre IV, and 14 Health Centre IIIs—assuring residents that the government will continue upgrading health facilities to meet growing needs.
He explained that the NRM’s long-term plan is to ensure that every Ugandan, regardless of location, can access quality medical care without walking long distances or incurring unbearable costs.
“We shall continue to upgrade these health facilities so services move closer to the people,” he said, noting that health investments remain a priority in the upcoming government programmes.
Wealth Creation (Obugaga): “Development is not the same as wealth”
Turning to the question of prosperity, President Museveni differentiated between development and wealth, a distinction he said many citizens still misunderstand. He pointed to Kampala as an example: despite having modern roads, electricity, and telecommunications, not every household in the capital is wealthy.
“Development is for everyone, but wealth must be built intentionally,” Museveni explained. “To create wealth, families must enter the money economy through commercial agriculture, industry, services, and ICT.”
He encouraged households in Busia and the entire Bukedi sub-region to adopt profitable enterprises suited to small, medium, or large landholdings. The President pledged continued government support through extension services, improved seeds, markets, and infrastructure that facilitates trade.
A Warm Thank-You to Bukedi as the Campaign Trail Moves to Busoga
As he concluded his address, President Museveni thanked the people of Busia and the entire Bukedi sub-region for their unwavering support and warm reception throughout his campaign tour.
“I appreciate the people of Bukedi for receiving us well and for their consistent support to the NRM,” he stated.
From Busia, the President headed to Bugiri District in the Busoga sub-region, where he is expected to continue sharing the NRM’s vision for the 2026–2031 period, focusing on job creation, industrialization, and consolidating socio-economic transformation.
