KAMPALA, Uganda – The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has issued a final reminder to schools, parents and other stakeholders to ensure that all learners in candidate classes are registered before the normal registration period closes at midnight on Tuesday, June 30, 2026.

In a press statement issued by UNEB Principal Public Relations Officer Jennifer Kalule-Musamba, the Board emphasized that the grace period for normal registration is coming to an end and urged schools to verify that every eligible learner has been successfully enrolled for this year's national examinations.

UNEB stressed that no candidate should be left out due to delays in completing the registration process.

According to the Board, a candidate is only considered fully registered after the required registration invoice has been paid in full. Registration fees during the normal registration period remain Shs34,000 for the Primary Leaving Examination (PLE), Shs164,000 for the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE), and Shs186,000 for the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE).

More than 1.58 Million Candidates Registered

UNEB revealed that as of one day before the close of normal registration, a total of 1,584,519 candidates had been registered across the three national examination levels.

Of these:

910,774 candidates (57.4%) have registered for the Primary Leaving Examination (PLE).

479,681 candidates (30.2%) have been registered for the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE).

194,064 candidates (12.2%) have completed registration for the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE).

The figures indicate continued strong participation in Uganda's national examination system as schools finalize preparations for the 2026 examination cycle.

Late Registration Begins July 1

UNEB announced that immediately after the closure of normal registration, a late registration window will run from July 1 to July 31, 2026.

However, the Board cautioned that no registration of candidates will be permitted after July 31, making the late registration period the final opportunity for schools and candidates who may have missed the normal registration deadline.

The Board therefore encouraged schools to avoid unnecessary delays by completing registration within the normal period.

Candidate Transfers Strictly Controlled

UNEB also reminded schools that transfers of already registered candidates from one examination centre to another will only be permitted under exceptional circumstances and with formal approval from the Executive Director.

The Board explained that any school seeking a transfer must submit a written explanation outlining the reasons for the request. Additionally, the receiving examination centre must provide an official acceptance letter confirming that it has the capacity to accommodate the candidate.

UNEB emphasized that all approved transfers can only be processed by the Board's registration office and should not be handled independently by schools.

Schools Encouraged to Seek Guidance

To facilitate a smooth conclusion of the registration exercise, UNEB urged schools requiring clarification or technical support to contact the Board through its official communication channels.

Stakeholders can reach UNEB on 041-777-3100 or through the toll-free lines 0800-211-077 and 0800-111-427 for assistance on registration and related procedures.

Ensuring No Learner Is Left Behind

The Board reiterated that the registration exercise is a critical step in preparing for the 2026 national examinations and appealed to headteachers, school administrators and parents to work together to ensure that every eligible learner is successfully registered before the deadlines expire.

UNEB maintained that timely registration will help guarantee that all qualified candidates are able to sit their respective national examinations without disruption later this year.
