DP’s Henry Kasacca Mubiru Declares Candidacy for Kawempe North, Nobert Mao Assures Full Support
The Democratic Party (DP) has officially backed Henry Kasacca Mubiru for the Kawempe North by election, with DP President Nobert Mao assuring full support and urging residents to elect a leader with vision, not just “funny politicians.”
The announcement was made on Tuesday at the DP Headquarters in Kampala, where party leaders and supporters gathered to rally behind Mubiru’s candidacy.
Mubiru, a seasoned leader, is making a return to elective politics, pledging to restore effective leadership, democracy, and service delivery in the constituency.
He brings a wealth of experience, having served as former Youth Chairman of Kawempe North, Program Manager of IPOD, Founder and Chair of the Youth Analysis Board, and Executive Director of the Dialogue and Democracy Training Centre. He is also a member of the Buganda Kingdom Lukiiko and has been a committed DP member since his University days.
Speaking on his candidacy, Mubiru highlighted the urgent need to address governance failures, corruption, and human rights violations in Kawempe North.
“This election is about the future of democracy. Governance must be fixed before we can tackle social and economic issues. Kawempe needs a leader who understands its challenges and is ready to bring solutions,” Mubiru stated.
He also announced his intention to formally seek permission from the Kabaka (King) of Buganda to take leave from his cultural duties as he enters the political race.
DP Electoral Commission Chairman John Mutenyu reaffirmed the party’s confidence in Mubiru, emphasizing that DP is bringing both intellectual and material strength to the race.
“DP is not a party of foot soldiers because human beings think with their heads, not their feet. What will matter in this election is brainpower, and we are ready,” Mutenyu said.
DP President Nobert Mao further rallied behind Mubiru, calling on Kawempe North residents to make an informed choice and not be swayed by unserious candidates.
"DP is fully behind Mubiru because we believe in leadership that delivers. Kawempe deserves a leader with a vision, not just funny politicians. Voters must choose wisely,” Mao urged.
With DP’s backing, Mubiru’s candidacy adds momentum to what is expected to be a highly contested by-election. As voters prepare to decide their next leader, the race is shaping up to be a critical moment for democracy and governance in Kawempe North.
