Hon. Wamakuyu Mudimi Launches Bid for 5th Term, Promises to Uplift Service Delivery in Elgon County
The nomination, conducted at the Bulambuli District Electoral Commission offices on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, marks the beginning of Mudimi’s bid for a fifth consecutive term in Uganda’s Parliament — a political journey that began in 2006.

Elgon County, Bulambuli District — Long-serving legislator Hon. Wamakuyu Nyasio Mudimi has been officially nominated to contest as an independent candidate for Member of Parliament for Elgon County in the forthcoming 2026 General Elections.
The nomination, conducted at the Bulambuli District Electoral Commission offices on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, marks the beginning of Mudimi’s bid for a fifth consecutive term in Uganda’s Parliament — a political journey that began in 2006.
Speaking shortly after his nomination, Mudimi expressed gratitude to the people of Elgon County for their unwavering trust and support over the years. He reaffirmed his commitment to continue advocating for enhanced service delivery and development-oriented leadership.
“I am running as an independent because the people of Elgon County deserve a leader who prioritizes their needs over party interests,” Mudimi stated. “I was mistreated during the NRM primaries, but this will not deter me. The Constitution allows every Ugandan to stand for leadership, and I am confident that my record of service speaks for itself.”
Mudimi emphasized that his next term will focus on consolidating the progress made in roads infrastructure, health services, and education — sectors he described as the backbone of socio-economic transformation in the region.
“Our goal is to ensure that every village in Elgon County is accessible by road, that our health centers are well-equipped, and that our schools produce competitive learners,” he added. “We must continue building on the foundation we have laid together.”
The legislator, who has represented Elgon County for nearly two decades, has been widely recognized for his advocacy on issues of rural electrification, youth empowerment, and agricultural development.
Mudimi’s decision to run as an independent comes after he contested the outcome of the NRM primaries, citing irregularities in the process. Despite this, he maintained that his relationship with the ruling party remains cordial, saying he still subscribes to the NRM’s ideology of peace, unity, and prosperity.
“I remain a strong believer in the NRM’s principles, but I am also guided by my responsibility to serve the people who have consistently entrusted me with their mandate,” he noted.
Hon. Mudimi is currently the second longest-serving Member of Parliament in the Bugisu Sub-region, after Hon. Nathan Nandala Mafabi, who has announced his intention to contest for the Presidency of Uganda in the same election cycle.
The Electoral Commission commenced Parliamentary nominations nationwide on October 22, with the exercise scheduled to conclude on October 23, 2025.
As campaigns prepare to kick off, all eyes are now on Elgon County, where Mudimi’s experience and deep community connections are expected to play a key role in shaping one of the region’s most closely watched parliamentary races.
