Museveni Ends Acholi Campaign Tour, Orders Review of Unequal School Distribution in Agago

AGAGO DISTRICT — President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has wrapped up his campaign rallies in the Acholi Sub-region with a resounding appeal for equitable access to education across Uganda, following a major rally held in Agago District on Friday.
Addressing thousands of enthusiastic supporters, the President reflected on the district’s remarkable transformation from a former war-torn area to a beacon of peace and stability, thanks to the relentless efforts of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government.
“Agago, which was once devastated by rebel activity and cattle rustling, now stands as a symbol of peace restored through the efforts of our strong army and the unity fostered by the NRM,” President Museveni said.
He lauded the people of Acholi for their resilience and for embracing government programs aimed at rebuilding livelihoods, promoting peace, and enhancing social services after years of insurgency.
However, the President expressed concern over the uneven distribution of government primary schools in Agago District. He revealed that while the district has 112 government primary schools and 117 parishes, only 42 parishes have all the government primary schools — leaving several parishes without a single public school.
“This imbalance is unacceptable,” he emphasized. “Every parish in Uganda must have at least one government primary school. I have therefore directed the Minister of Education to address this issue immediately.”
Museveni reiterated that education remains a cornerstone of Uganda’s social-economic transformation agenda under the NRM, noting that universal education programs such as UPE and USE were introduced to give all children a fair chance at success. He assured the people of Agago and the entire Acholi Sub-region that government will continue to prioritize investment in schools, teachers, and learning facilities.
The President also used the occasion to remind citizens of the NRM’s consistent delivery on peace, infrastructure development, and social services, saying these achievements form the foundation for Uganda’s continued progress.
“Because of peace, we can now talk about roads, schools, hospitals, and wealth creation. I thank the people of Acholi for their overwhelming support and urge them to vote for the NRM so we can consolidate these gains,” he added.
Museveni’s rally in Agago marked the conclusion of his campaign tour across the Acholi Sub-region, where he has engaged local leaders, youth groups, and community members on issues of service delivery, wealth creation, and national unity.
The President’s next stop is expected to be in the Karamoja Sub-region as he continues to traverse the country popularizing the NRM manifesto and preparing for the 2026 General Elections.
