NRM National Treasurer Hon. Amb. Barbara Nekesa Oundo Unveils Nationwide Mobilisation, Logistics Plan Ahead of President Museveni’s May 12 Swearing-In
Speaking at the NRM Secretariat in Kampala during a high-level meeting with grassroots leaders from districts, municipalities, cities, and town councils, the party’s National Treasurer, Hon. Amb. Barbara Nekesa Oundo, outlined a detailed roadmap aimed at ensuring a well-coordinated, inclusive, and celebratory inauguration.
The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has rolled out an extensive nationwide mobilisation and logistical framework ahead of the swearing-in of President-elect Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, scheduled for May 12, 2026, at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.
Recognition of Grassroots Effort
Nekesa commended party structures across the country for their role in delivering what she described as a decisive electoral victory, with the NRM securing over 71 percent in the January presidential election.
She traced the party’s journey from grassroots mobilisation in districts, through primary elections, to national conferences and the general campaign period, noting that the structured and deliberate approach was central to the eventual outcome.
“This victory was not accidental; it was intentional,” she emphasized, attributing the success to coordinated efforts at all levels of party organisation.
Delegates as Representatives of the Nation
The Treasurer underscored that leaders invited to attend the inauguration will do so as representatives of the wider party membership across Uganda. She said the National Chairman, together with the National Executive Council, had deliberately selected participants from across administrative units to reflect national inclusivity.
“This invitation is in recognition of your contribution and your position as representatives of our structures across the country,” she noted.
Distribution of Party Uniforms
As part of preparations, Nekesa announced the distribution of kitenge material to all invited delegates.
The fabric will be tailored into uniforms—shirts and dresses—to be worn on the day of the swearing-in. She directed administrative secretaries to oversee the collection and distribution process to ensure that all designated participants receive and prepare their attire in time.
Transport and Accommodation Arrangements
To facilitate movement, the party will provide transport funds to invited delegates through district accounts.
Leaders were encouraged to coordinate and, where possible, organise shared transport to Kampala. Delegates are expected to travel on Monday, May 11, and report to the Uganda Institute of Information and Communications Technology, which will serve as the reception and coordination centre.
Nekesa stressed the importance of early arrival, noting that key administrative arrangements will take place on the eve of the inauguration. On the day itself, participants are required to be seated at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds by 8:00 a.m., with reporting time set for 6:00 a.m.
Nationwide Publicity and District Engagement
While selected leaders will attend the main event in Kampala, Nekesa directed district and administrative officials not travelling to remain in their respective areas to spearhead local celebrations and publicity. She said the inauguration will be broadcast live across the country, with districts expected to organise community-level engagements to foster a nationwide celebratory atmosphere.
“This is a national event. Even those not physically present in Kampala must ensure that the spirit of celebration is felt across all districts,” she said.
City Mobilisation and International Visibility
The NRM has also planned a major visibility campaign within Kampala and along key routes, including from Entebbe International Airport to Speke Resort Munyonyo and through the central business district.
The displays will include banners, posters, and digital messaging showcasing the party’s achievements and electoral success. Nekesa revealed that international guests and political actors from other countries have already been invited, with some expressing interest in understanding the NRM’s sustained electoral strength.
Drone Show and Entertainment Line-Up
In a first-of-its-kind initiative, the party will stage a 14-minute drone show over Kampala on the evening of May 11 at 8:00 p.m. The aerial display will feature audio-visual messaging, including a “thank you” note from President Museveni to Ugandans. Nekesa urged leaders to mobilise the public to witness the spectacle, noting its significance as both a celebration and a communication tool.
The inauguration will also feature entertainment from a diverse range of cultural and performing groups, reflecting Uganda’s heritage and unity.
Call for Discipline and Coordination
Nekesa concluded by calling for discipline, time management, and effective coordination among party leaders to ensure the success of the event. She emphasized that the inauguration is not just a ceremonial occasion but a demonstration of the NRM’s organisational capacity and national reach.
“With proper coordination, this will be a historic and well-executed event that reflects the strength and unity of our party,” she said.
The May 12 swearing-in is expected to draw tens of thousands of attendees, alongside regional and international delegations, marking the beginning of a new term for President Museveni under the NRM banner.
