NRM Rolls Out Nationwide Display and Verification of Membership Register
Hon. Capt. George Mike Mukula, NRM Vice-chair person for Eastern Region, Presides over Launch

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) party has today officially launched the nationwide display and verification of its membership register in all villages across Uganda. This exercise follows the party's successful digitization of its membership records, which now comprise over 18 million members.

Presiding over the launch, Capt. Mike Mukula, the NRM Vice Chairperson for the Eastern Region, emphasized the importance of the exercise in promoting transparency and inclusivity within the party. He urged all members to actively participate in verifying their details to avoid being excluded from future party activities, particularly the upcoming structure and primary elections.

“The register is very vital in ensuring transparent and credible primary elections of flag bearers and building a strong party up to the grassroots,” Hon. Mukula stated.

The digitization of the NRM membership register is a milestone in the party's efforts to enhance its internal processes. Undertaken by the NRM Secretariat last month, the initiative aims to modernize the party's operations, reduce manual errors, and foster greater transparency during elections. The digitized system now enables efficient record management and easy access to membership information across the country.

The display and verification exercise, which officially starts on Wednesday, 29th January 2025, will run at the village level. NRM members are encouraged to visit their respective village registrars to confirm their details, including names, voter registration numbers, and other relevant information. The exercise will help eliminate discrepancies in the register and ensure that all members are accurately documented.

Hon. Mukula underscored that the verification process is pivotal in preparing the party for its structure and primary elections. By ensuring that the register is accurate and up-to-date, the NRM aims to build a strong and credible foundation for grassroots participation. He noted that the credibility of the register directly impacts the integrity of the elections and the strength of the party's leadership at all levels.

“The NRM is committed to conducting free, fair, and credible elections. This exercise will empower members to actively participate in choosing their flag bearers, thereby strengthening the party's democratic values,” Mukula added.

The launch of the exercise is also part of the NRM's broader strategy to mobilize support at the grassroots level. By involving members in the verification process, the party seeks to foster a sense of ownership and commitment among its supporters. Mukula called upon village registrars and local leaders to support the exercise by sensitizing members about its importance.

Following the verification exercise, the updated register will form the basis for the NRM's upcoming structure and primary elections. Party leaders have assured members that the process will be conducted transparently and in accordance with the party's constitution.

NRM members are encouraged to visit their village registrars starting Wednesday to cross-check their details. Those who encounter discrepancies are advised to report them immediately to ensure corrections are made in time.

The NRM's efforts to digitize and verify its membership register reflect its commitment to fostering transparency, accountability, and inclusivity in its operations. As the party prepares for the next phase of its political activities, the success of this exercise will play a critical role in strengthening its position as Uganda's leading political organization.

Meanwhile, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, had something to say as the NRM officially launched the final phase of the NRM Register Update exercise. This initiative aims to streamline and strengthen the party's membership database as preparations intensify for the upcoming internal party elections.

The launch, held at the party's headquarters in Kampala, was marked by a call to action for all NRM members across the country. Todwong urged members to visit their respective branches (villages) to ensure that their details are updated in the party register.

Speaking at the event, Rt. Hon. Todwong emphasized the significance of the exercise, noting that it is critical to the party’s vision of remaining a robust, grassroots-based political movement.

“This register update is not just an administrative task. It is a strategic step to strengthen our party's foundation. By having accurate and comprehensive records, we can ensure that all members are included in the decision-making processes that define the future of the NRM,” Todwong remarked.

The NRM’s internal elections are expected to be highly competitive as members vie for various positions, from the grassroots to the national level. A clean and updated register will ensure transparency and inclusivity during this crucial exercise.

“The internal elections are a cornerstone of our democratic principles as a party. This register update ensures that every member has an equal opportunity to participate, whether as a candidate or a voter,” Todwong added.

To facilitate the exercise, the NRM has decentralized the process to the village level. Branch leaders have been equipped with guidelines to help members verify and update their information. The exercise will involve correcting inaccuracies, registering new members, and deleting records of deceased individuals.

“Every member matters, and this exercise is about inclusivity. No one should be left behind. I urge all our comrades to visit their respective branches and take advantage of this opportunity to update their details,” Todwong said.

Rt. Hon. Todwong also revealed that the updated register would be digitized to enhance its efficiency and accessibility. The digital register will serve as a tool for effective communication and coordination within the party.

“The digitization of our records is a step towards modernizing our party operations. It will help us manage our membership better and foster a stronger connection with our supporters,” he explained.

The register update exercise is part of the NRM’s broader strategy to prepare for the 2026 General Elections. By solidifying its grassroots structures and engaging members at the local level, the party aims to maintain its political dominance.

“As we gear up for the 2026 General Elections, this exercise sends a clear message that the NRM remains committed to its core values of service and unity. Let us work together to ensure the success of this initiative,” Todwong concluded.

The NRM Register Update exercise is expected to run for several weeks, with branch leaders tasked with mobilizing members to participate. As the party embarks on this critical phase, its leadership is optimistic that a strengthened register will provide a solid foundation for inclusive and transparent internal elections.

The NRM’s commitment to empowering its grassroots structures underscores its position as Uganda’s leading political movement, focused on fostering unity and development across the nation.
