President Museveni and Ambassador Nekesa Commend Grassroots Participation and Unity in NRM Village Elections
The peaceful nature of the elections has been widely lauded by party leaders, local officials, and community members, setting a strong tone for internal democracy as Uganda prepares for the 2025/2026 General Elections.

Kiruhura & Busia, Uganda
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has commended the residents of Rwakitura for their exemplary involvement in the ongoing National Resistance Movement (NRM) village-level electoral process, underscoring their commitment to grassroots democracy and internal party cohesion.
President Museveni, who also serves as the National Chairman of the ruling NRM party, personally supervised the exercise in his home area of Rwakitura Cell, Nshwerenkye Parish in Kiruhura District. The village-level activities included verification of the party register, elections of village NRM structures, and the selection of Local Council I (LCI) flag bearers.
A total of 290 voters were confirmed on the updated NRM register after a thorough audit process led to the removal of 61 names due to deaths or relocation.
"I want to thank the people of Rwakitura for checking the register to confirm their details," said President Museveni while addressing the community members. He noted that such diligence helps uphold the integrity of the party’s electoral system and ensures inclusive participation in shaping the party’s leadership at all levels.
The President emphasized that grassroots elections are a crucial foundation for the NRM's strength and unity, urging all party members countrywide to embrace the same level of seriousness and responsibility demonstrated in Rwakitura.
Ambassador Nekesa Applauds Unity in Busia’s Village Elections
Meanwhile, in eastern Uganda, NRM National Treasurer Hon. Amb. Barbara Nekesa Oundo participated in a similarly peaceful and successful village electoral process at Sichehe Village in Masafu Town Council, Busia District.
Unlike some areas that required a ballot, Sichehe village elections were conducted by consensus, with all 30 positions filled harmoniously. This approach, according to Ambassador Nekesa, reflected high levels of maturity, mutual respect, and unity among the villagers.
"The act shows mutual respect and unity among my villagemates," she remarked. "Consensus building is one of the pillars of the NRM. What I have witnessed here today is the essence of participatory democracy."
Amb. Nekesa further encouraged party members across the country to emulate the example of Sichehe Village, stating that consensus not only avoids unnecessary conflict but also strengthens social ties and collective responsibility within communities.
Reports from across the country indicate that the NRM’s village structure and LCI flag bearer elections have been successfully conducted in all polling stations, with minimal disruptions and high levels of participation.
The elections are a critical step in building the party's grassroots structures, which form the base of the NRM's political machinery. The process involves validation of membership registers, nomination and election of village committees, and endorsement of flag bearers ahead of future national elections.
