President Museveni Celebrates Lango Victory, Calls for Wealth Creation and Zero Tolerance to Corruption

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Saturday joined thousands of jubilant supporters in the Lango Sub-region to celebrate his recent electoral victory, in an event marked by gratitude, renewed commitment, and a strong call for socio-economic transformation.

Held at Lango College Grounds, the gathering attracted a massive turnout of National Resistance Movement (NRM) supporters, leaders, and residents who came to reaffirm their support for the President and his vision for Uganda’s development.

In his address, President Museveni expressed heartfelt appreciation to the people of Lango and the country at large for the trust they have continued to place in his leadership.

“I thank God for the unity the people of Uganda have continued to show us. It’s God who has continued making us united and that’s why I start by thanking Him,” Museveni said.

He commended the people of Lango for what he described as wise and overwhelming support during the recent general elections, urging leaders to now shift focus toward ensuring that government wealth-creation programs directly benefit households.

The President emphasized the need for effective implementation of the Parish Development Model (PDM), calling on leaders to track progress at the grassroots level.

“Now that elections are over, make sure all households which haven’t benefited from PDM benefit in the next five years. Leaders should not just talk generally but be specific—parish by parish—on how many homesteads have received support,” he noted.

Museveni also directed Members of Parliament to monitor the distribution of funds under the Emyooga program, particularly targeting youth empowerment at the constituency level.

Looking ahead, the President revealed plans for a new agricultural initiative aimed at boosting household incomes, including the distribution of coffee seedlings and fruit crops to farmers.

“I’m going to use my land in Baralegi and other government land to plant seedlings which can be given to people for free,” he announced.

Beyond economic empowerment, Museveni stressed the importance of maintaining peace and stability as critical pillars for national progress. He urged citizens to remain vigilant against corruption, warning against any form of exploitation in government programs.

“Don’t be kind to corrupt people. Nobody should deduct any money from your PDM. There is enough space in Luzira,” he cautioned.

The President further encouraged the people of Lango to embrace hard work as a pathway to prosperity, noting that increased household incomes are key to sustainable development.

“I thank the people of Lango for standing with the NRM and supporting our vision of prosperity for all Ugandans. We must now focus on wealth creation, job opportunities, and improving household incomes,” he added.

The event also featured remarks from several leaders, including Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, the Lira City Woman Member of Parliament and Minister of Health, who welcomed the President and praised his role in Uganda’s transformation over the past four decades.

Dr. Aceng highlighted the impact of government programs such as PDM and Emyooga, attributing them to improved livelihoods in the region. She also commended advancements in healthcare services at Lira Regional Referral Hospital.

“I’m very happy to note that heart surgeries, brain surgeries, and dialysis are all now being conducted in Lira,” she said, adding that the region’s overwhelming support—over 80 percent—for Museveni reflects confidence in his leadership.

Government Chief Whip Hon. Hamson Obua echoed similar sentiments, thanking the people of Lango for their loyalty to the NRM and describing the electoral victory as a collective achievement.

“We are here to thank God and the people of Lango for the triumphant victory in the elections,” Obua said.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Joseph Ocwet, Director General of the External Security Organisation (ESO), praised President Museveni for spearheading infrastructure development, strengthening education, and enhancing security in the region.

“You brought prosperity to Lango. The development in roads, education, and healthcare has gone beyond our expectations. This is why Lango voted massively for you,” Ocwet remarked.

Prior to the celebrations, President Museveni paid tribute to the late Anthony Ocwet and his wife, Carolyn Akullu Ocwet, by laying a wreath in their memory—an act that underscored the day’s blend of reflection and celebration.

The event was attended by ministers, cultural and religious leaders, and NRM officials, reinforcing the strong political and social ties between the leadership and the people of Lango.

As Uganda transitions from the electoral season, the President’s message in Lango signaled a renewed focus on service delivery, accountability, and inclusive economic growth aimed at lifting more households out of poverty.
