President Museveni Concludes Karamoja Campaign Trail, Reaffirms NRM’s Commitment to Peace, Development, and Free Education

Napak District, Karamoja — President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, accompanied by the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Kataaha Museveni, on Thursday concluded his campaign tour of the Karamoja Sub-region with a grand rally in Napak District, where he presented the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Manifesto for the 2026–2031 term.

Addressing thousands of enthusiastic supporters, President Museveni expressed his gratitude to the people of Karamoja for their unwavering support and confidence in the NRM government, which he said has continued to deliver tangible progress in peace, infrastructure, and social services.

“Together with Maama Janet, we have concluded our rallies in Karamoja by presenting the NRM Manifesto 2026–2031 to the people of Napak. I thank all Ugandans, especially the people of Karamoja, for the strong support and confidence you continue to show in us,” the President said.

Peace and Development at the Core of NRM’s Agenda

President Museveni emphasized that the NRM’s top priorities for the next five years remain peace and development, noting that the transformation of Uganda is anchored on stability and security.

He recounted how peace in Karamoja was hard-won through persistent government efforts to disarm warriors and restore law and order.

“Without peace, there can be no development,” he remarked, adding that the NRM government will continue to safeguard the stability that has allowed Karamoja and Uganda at large to prosper.

The President highlighted significant achievements in infrastructure and service delivery, including roads, electricity, communication networks, and water systems. He noted that while Napak District has made progress, more work remains to be done.

“We now have roads, electricity, telephones, water and dams across the country. In Napak, 51% of villages have boreholes; this must rise. I have directed the Minister for Karamoja to address disparities across districts,” he stated.

A Focus on Free Education for All

In a major policy commitment, President Museveni announced that free education for all children will be mandatory in the next term, underscoring the NRM’s focus on human capital development as a key pillar of national transformation.

“In the next Kisanja, free education for all children will be a must,” he declared. He commended Maama Janet Museveni for her unwavering dedication to improving education and social welfare, particularly in Karamoja, where she has championed projects in food and water security.

“I thank Maama Janet, who volunteered to come to Karamoja and made a big contribution in water and food security, including the dams. Going forward, we shall ensure individualized water supply for production,” President Museveni said.

Commitment to Inclusive Growth in Karamoja

The President reassured the people of Karamoja that his government remains committed to addressing regional disparities and ensuring equitable access to basic services. He directed the Minister for Karamoja Affairs to prioritize underserved communities and fast-track interventions that promote production, food security, and livelihood improvement.

He also reiterated the importance of water for production, saying the next phase of the NRM government will focus on individualized water systems to support both household and agricultural needs.

Call for Continued Support

In his closing remarks, President Museveni appealed to the people of Karamoja to rally behind the NRM as the party best positioned to consolidate peace and development achievements.

“I appeal to you to support the NRM so that we consolidate what we have done and do more,” he urged.

He concluded his speech with a message of gratitude and solidarity, reaffirming his connection to the people of Karamoja.

“I thank the people of Napak. Arakara noi Karamoja!” he exclaimed, to loud applause from the gathered crowds.

A Region Transformed

President Museveni’s visit marked the conclusion of his campaign trail across Karamoja, where he has been engaging communities on the NRM’s new manifesto priorities. The region, once known for insecurity and drought, is now a growing hub for livestock farming, mining, and education initiatives, thanks to sustained government interventions.

As the 2026 elections draw closer, the President’s message of peace, progress, and inclusive development continues to resonate across Uganda — with Karamoja standing as a symbol of how stability can transform even the most challenging regions.
