President Museveni: Peace Remains Uganda’s Greatest Asset as He Campaigns in Entebbe

Entebbe  — President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Monday rallied residents of Entebbe , calling on them to consolidate peace and embrace wealth creation as Uganda heads to the general elections slated for 15th January 2026.

Addressing a large crowd alongside the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Kataaha Museveni, the President emphasized that peace and economic empowerment remain among the National Resistance Movement’s (NRM) most enduring contributions to Uganda’s transformation.

President Museveni reminded wananchi that Uganda has enjoyed over four decades of relative peace, a foundation he said was deliberately built by the NRM government after years of instability.

“For more than 40 years, Uganda has been peaceful. We removed roadblocks across the country, including those here near Lake Victoria in Entebbe, where wananchi were harassed and extorted,” Museveni said. “Peace created the space for development and wealth creation.”

The President pointed to visible urban growth as proof of what peace has enabled, citing areas such as Abayita, Kawanda, Nakawa and Kireka, which he said were once largely undeveloped but have since grown into vibrant commercial and residential centres.

“Some of these places were bush or had only a few shops. Today they are built up because people took advantage of the opportunities created by peace,” he noted.

Museveni stressed that the NRM’s vision is not to create an economy where wealth is concentrated in the hands of a few, but rather one that uplifts the majority of Ugandans.

“Our aim is not a country of a few rich people surrounded by many poor ones,” he said.

Focusing on Entebbe and Wakiso Districts, the President outlined urban-based wealth creation opportunities, urging residents to embrace income-generating activities that can thrive even on small plots of land.

“In Entebbe, prosperity is possible through urban agriculture,” Museveni said. “You can rear pigs, poultry, fish, grow flowers and other high-value crops, even on small pieces of land in places like Kasenyi and Nakawuka.”

He further revealed that government is rolling out targeted funding in Wakiso District to support sectors such as mechanics, markets and fisheries, describing these as practical pathways out of poverty, especially for the youth and urban dwellers.

“These are real pathways out of poverty. Government support is there, but the people must also be ready to work and use these opportunities,” the President added.

Museveni used the rally to make a direct political appeal, urging residents of Wakiso and Entebbe to support the NRM in the forthcoming elections.

“I therefore appeal to all our people in Wakiso to vote for the NRM so that we continue on this path of peace, stability and wealth creation,” he said.

The Entebbe rally is part of President Museveni’s nationwide campaign tour aimed at mobilizing voters, popularizing the NRM’s track record, and outlining its agenda as Uganda prepares to go to the polls on 15th January 2026.
