President Museveni Rekindles Childhood Memories in Rwampara, Announces Major Projects

Museveni recalled moving through Bujaga in 1957 as a young boy walking on foot to watch a football match, memories that he said reflect the long path Uganda has traveled. He also revisited moments from the liberation years of 1979 and 1985, when he traversed the area during the armed struggle. “Those wars ended, and today Uganda is in peace,” he told the crowd, emphasizing peace as the single most important pillar for national development.

President Museveni Rekindles Childhood Memories in Rwampara, Announces Major Projects

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Monday kick-started his campaign program in Rwampara District, marking a historic return to Bujaga—a place he last passed through 68 years ago. Joined by the First Lady, Maama Janet Kataaha Museveni, and senior NRM leaders, the President addressed enthusiastic supporters gathered to welcome him back to a community that has played a symbolic role in both his childhood and Uganda’s liberation journey.

Roads and Infrastructure: Connecting Rwampara to Opportunity

The President highlighted government’s investment in improving infrastructure in Rwampara, noting that the Rwampara road has been constructed and key routes toward Isingiro have been opened. These upgrades, he said, have eased movement, boosted local trade, and improved access to essential services.

To further stimulate economic growth and strengthen connectivity, Museveni announced that the government will upgrade two major road networks:

Buteraniro–Bugamba–Rwoho–Bukoni–Kitwe road

Ruti–Mwizi–Kikagate road

The upgrading of these roads is expected to reduce transport costs, support agriculture, and link Rwampara more efficiently to regional markets.

Electrification: Every Sub-County Covered

Museveni reaffirmed that all sub-counties in Rwampara are now connected to electricity. He encouraged residents to use this opportunity to embrace value addition, small industries, and income-generating ventures. Access to power, he said, should translate into better livelihoods and stronger local enterprise.

Irrigation and Environmental Stewardship

With climate change posing increasing challenges to agriculture, the President announced plans to implement irrigation schemes across the district. He cautioned the population against encroaching on wetlands, noting that swamps are vital water reservoirs that make irrigation possible.

“Irrigation will be implemented, so do not destroy the swamps,” he emphasized, urging residents to protect the environment as a cornerstone for future food security and sustainable agriculture.

Health Services: Upgrading to a District Hospital

Rwampara has made significant progress in expanding primary health care, with every sub-county now hosting either a Health Centre III or IV. Museveni revealed that the next step is to upgrade one of the Health Centre IV facilities into a district hospital—a move aimed at improving specialized services and reducing the distance residents travel for advanced care.

President Museveni’s return to Rwampara blended personal reflection with a firm message on continuity, stability, and development. His recollections of Bujaga from 1957 to the liberation years gave the rally a sense of historical depth, while his commitments to improved infrastructure, electricity, irrigation, and health services underscored the NRM’s development agenda.

The rally energized supporters who welcomed the President’s assurance that Rwampara would continue to benefit from national projects aimed at transforming rural communities and consolidating peace.
