Rotary District 9213 Governor Mr. Geoffrey Martin Kitakule has rallied Ugandans and the international community to turn up in large numbers for the 14th Rotary Cancer Run, scheduled for Sunday, 31st August 2025 at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds and in more than 40 towns across the country.

With the rallying theme “One Race, One Purpose,” the event seeks to raise UGX 4 billion to complete the Rotary Nsambya Cancer Centre, a state-of-the-art facility that will expand access to specialized cancer diagnosis, treatment, and care.

Uganda faces an escalating cancer burden, recording approximately 33,000 new cases and 22,000 deaths annually. According to Kitakule, this grim reality underscores the urgency for collective action and sustained investment in cancer care.

“Cancer is one of the leading health challenges facing our country today. Every family has either been directly or indirectly touched by this disease. The Rotary Cancer Run is more than just a sporting event—it is a symbol of hope and a practical way of contributing to saving lives. I invite everyone—young, old, runners, walkers, cyclists—to join us on August 31st as we make history together,” Kitakule said.

Since its launch in 2012, the Rotary Cancer Run has evolved into Uganda’s premier charity run, drawing tens of thousands of participants each year. Beyond raising funds, it has nurtured a culture of awareness, early detection, and wellness.

Funds from past editions have gone toward constructing and equipping the Rotary-Centenary Bank Cancer Centre at St. Francis Hospital Nsambya, which has been instrumental in expanding access to affordable cancer care. The 2025 edition builds on this legacy, with proceeds earmarked for the completion of the Nsambya Cancer Centre, a critical step in bridging Uganda’s gap in specialized oncology services.

The Rotary Cancer Run is widely celebrated for its inclusive and vibrant atmosphere. Participants will take part in 5km, 10km, and 21km race categories, with options to run, walk, jog, or ride, ensuring that all fitness levels can participate.

The event will also feature:

Free cancer screenings and health expos

Inspirational talks on cancer prevention and wellness

Live entertainment and performances

Rotary Uganda, in partnership with sponsors, corporate organizations, and media outlets, continues to drive the event’s success through collaboration. Kitakule emphasized that the Cancer Run is not just about fundraising but about uniting Ugandans in solidarity against a disease that spares no one.

“When we come together—individuals, families, corporates, government, and communities—we show the true strength of unity. Every step we take on August 31st brings us closer to saving lives, closer to building a healthier Uganda, and closer to giving hope to those battling cancer,” he added.

The Rotary Cancer Run 2025 stands as a beacon of resilience, compassion, and commitment, reminding Ugandans that service above self can transform lives.

On August 31st, Kololo and towns across Uganda will not just host a run—they will host a movement. A movement to fight cancer, to save lives, and to build hope.
