Susan Kabonero Muhwezi Elected to PSFU Board, Strengthening Tourism Sector Representation
In her first public remarks following the election, Muhwezi expressed gratitude for the opportunity, pledging to serve with “humility and passion” in advancing the interests of the tourism and hospitality industry. Susan Kabonero Muhwezi, a prominent figure in Uganda’s tourism and hospitality industry, has been elected to the board of the Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU), in a move aimed at strengthening sectoral representation within the country’s apex private sector body.
This was during the Private Sector Foundation Uganda Extraordinary General Meeting held UMA - Lugogo, today, electing new board members to represent Tourism, ICT, Agriculture sectors, & the MSME category. Susan Muhwezi, James Byaruhanga, Erastos Nsubuga, & Peter Kasirye were elected respectively.
Mrs. Muhwezi, who is the wife of Uganda’s Security Minister, Major General (Rtd) Hon. Jim Muhwezi, will represent the tourism and hospitality sector on the board. Her appointment takes immediate effect and forms part of a broader restructuring of sector representatives within PSFU, intended to align the organization more closely with evolving economic priorities.

The Private Sector Foundation Uganda serves as the umbrella organization for Uganda’s private sector, bringing together over 300 business associations, corporate bodies, and key industry stakeholders. It plays a central role in policy advocacy, fostering private sector growth, and facilitating engagement between businesses and government.
Board members at PSFU are instrumental in shaping national economic dialogue, contributing to policy formulation, and championing initiatives that enhance the competitiveness of Uganda’s business environment. Muhwezi’s election therefore places her at the heart of these critical processes at a time when tourism is increasingly being viewed as a cornerstone of Uganda’s economic recovery and long-term growth.
With over a decade of experience in tourism and hospitality, Muhwezi brings a wealth of expertise to the board. She previously served as Chairperson of the Uganda Hotel Owners Association, where she was actively involved in advocating for industry-friendly policies, improving standards, and promoting Uganda as a competitive tourism destination.
Her leadership has also extended to broader tourism advocacy and sector development initiatives, positioning her as one of the leading voices in Uganda’s hospitality landscape. Stakeholders believe her eleection will enhance the visibility and influence of the tourism sector within PSFU’s strategic agenda.
Tourism remains one of Uganda’s key economic sectors, contributing significantly to foreign exchange earnings, employment, and investment. As the country continues to recover from global and domestic economic disruptions, stronger representation within decision-making bodies such as PSFU is expected to accelerate sector growth and resilience.
Muhwezi’s elevation to the PSFU board is therefore not only a personal milestone but also a significant boost for the tourism and hospitality industry, signaling renewed focus on leveraging private sector leadership to drive Uganda’s economic transformation.
