Buhweju Rally: President Museveni Highlights Peace, Promises Swift Start on Bwizibwera–Nyakambu–Nsiika Road
Addressing thousands of enthusiastic supporters alongside the National Resistance Movement (NRM) leadership, President Museveni emphasized that peace remains the most important pillar of national transformation. He reminded the people of Buhweju that the progress they enjoy today—spanning infrastructure, education, and economic empowerment—was made possible only because the NRM restored stability across the country.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni held his campaign rally today in Buhweju District, calling on Ugandans to safeguard the peace and stability that have enabled the country to advance steadily along the path of growth and modernization.
“Peace is the foundation of all progress,” the President said. “Because of that peace, we can now strengthen the second brick of our work, which is development.”
In reaffirming the government’s commitment to improving connectivity in western Uganda, President Museveni announced significant progress on the long-awaited Bwizibwera–Nyakambu–Nsiika–Nyakashaka–Nyakabirizi road project. He revealed that China Railway 18th Bureau Group, the firm contracted to construct the road, is in the final stages of securing 30 billion shillings for land compensation.
The President noted that once compensation is finalized, construction will commence immediately. The road, which links several trading centers and rural communities, is expected to stimulate trade, ease transportation of agricultural produce, and improve access to markets and social services.
“This road is crucial for the economic life of Buhweju and neighboring districts,” he said. “We want our people to produce with confidence, knowing that access to markets will no longer be a hindrance.”
President Museveni reiterated that the NRM’s development strategy is built on clear and deliberate “bricks” that include peace, infrastructure development, wealth creation, education, and social transformation. With peace secured, he said, the focus now turns to deepening socio-economic progress across all regions.
Buhweju, one of Uganda’s highland districts known for tea, coffee, and mineral deposits, is among areas the government has prioritized for integrated development. The President encouraged residents to embrace commercial agriculture, use government programs to build household incomes, and uphold unity as the nation heads toward the 2026 elections.
Local NRM leaders thanked the President for his longstanding commitment to Buhweju, citing numerous programs that have uplifted communities—including the Parish Development Model (PDM), UPE, and youth and women economic initiatives. They pledged to mobilize full support for the President and the party during the upcoming elections.
Buhweju marks the first stop in President Museveni’s campaign trail today as he seeks a renewed mandate to continue steering Uganda’s economic transformation. His message in the district centered on unity, steady progress, and the need to protect Uganda’s hard-earned gains.
As the President moves to other regions, infrastructure development, wealth creation, and continued stability are expected to remain key highlights of his engagements with voters.
