Hon. Irene Nafuna Muloni, the former Minister of Energy and Mineral Development and incumbent Woman Member of Parliament for Bulambuli District, has officially declared her intention to seek re-election in the upcoming 2026 general elections. Hon. Muloni picked nomination forms this week from the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission headquarters, signaling her readiness to once again represent the people of Bulambuli under the ruling party's banner.
Speaking to the media shortly after obtaining the forms, Hon. Muloni expressed deep gratitude to the people of Bulambuli for the support they have extended to her over the years. “I will continue serving you, and I want to thank you, people of Bulambuli,” she said. In a heartfelt appeal, she added, “Hand me the NRM flag in the upcoming elections.”
A Pledge to Continue Empowering Women and Girls
Hon. Muloni reaffirmed her unwavering commitment to championing issues affecting women and the girl child in Bulambuli District. She pledged to intensify efforts to improve livelihoods, enhance access to education, and strengthen the economic empowerment of women and girls across the constituency.
“I remain committed to ensuring that girls stay in school, receive the support they need, and that our women are empowered to participate meaningfully in the economic and social development of our district,” she noted.
Drawing from her tenure as Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, Hon. Muloni emphasized her vision to continue advocating for increased access to electricity in rural and hard-to-reach areas of Bulambuli. She acknowledged that electricity is a key enabler of economic development, especially for small businesses, health centers, and schools.
“Energy is life, and development thrives where there is power. I will ensure that more households and institutions in Bulambuli are connected to the national grid,” she pledged.
Hon. Muloni’s bid comes as the NRM Electoral Commission officially opened the nomination process on Monday, launching a critical phase in the lead-up to the 2026 general elections. Aspirants vying for party endorsement are required to pick nomination forms, gather endorsements from registered party members in their respective constituencies, and return the completed documents by June 17.
The nomination period has seen a surge in activity, with hundreds of aspirants across the country expressing interest in contesting various positions under the NRM ticket. The process is expected to intensify throughout June as both national and local-level contests begin to take shape.
Hon. Irene Muloni is a respected leader with a solid track record in both the public and political spheres. A professional electrical engineer by training, she served as Uganda’s Minister of Energy and Mineral Development from 2011 to 2019, during which she spearheaded major infrastructure projects and played a significant role in extending electricity access to previously underserved communities.
Her leadership in Parliament and the NRM party has been marked by a strong emphasis on development, women’s empowerment, and community transformation — pillars she vows to uphold if entrusted with another term.
As the race for the 2026 elections gathers momentum, Hon. Muloni's supporters believe her experience, dedication, and results-oriented approach position her as the right candidate to continue advancing Bulambuli’s development agenda under the NRM flag.https://youtu.be/mRMWR3sUK6I?si=ujkJdvVfBlLYszYo
