In Buyende, President Museveni Reassures Citizens on Infrastructure Plans and National Stability
The President reminded the gathering that Uganda’s transformation began with establishing peace—what he referred to as the first tofali (brick) in the foundation of the country’s stability.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has urged the people of Buyende District—especially the youth—to safeguard Uganda’s hard-earned peace and unity as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) intensifies its nationwide campaigns ahead of the 2026 General Elections.
Speaking during his rally in Buyende on Tuesday, the President, accompanied by First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Museveni, reiterated that the NRM’s strength lies in discipline, hard work, and politics of interests rather than identity. These, he said, have enabled the Movement to steadily build Uganda over the last 40 years.
The President reminded the gathering that Uganda’s transformation began with establishing peace—what he referred to as the first tofali (brick) in the foundation of the country’s stability.
He recounted the insecurity and turbulence that characterised past regimes, citing rebel activity, cattle rustling, and incursions by foreign-backed groups that terrorised communities across the country. The President noted that many people from Teso once fled to Buyende seeking safety, a situation that is now history because the NRM prioritised security.
Museveni emphasised that understanding why earlier governments collapsed is crucial for the younger generation. He urged them to appreciate the importance of political systems built around shared socio-economic interests rather than religious, ethnic, or regional identities.
Youth Encouraged to Embrace Discipline and Hard Work
To the large youth crowd, the President stressed that the NRM is a “serious Movement” whose legacy is rooted in discipline and hard work. He called on young people to adopt these values if they are to contribute effectively to national development.
He also encouraged them to avoid misleading narratives that overlook the sacrifices and reforms that have enabled Uganda to achieve peace and socio-economic progress.
A key highlight of the Buyende rally was the President’s commitment to improving the district’s road network as part of the NRM Manifesto for 2026–2031.
Museveni announced that the long-awaited Mbulamuti–Kamuli–Bukungu road is set for upgrade, a development expected to boost mobility, trade, and agricultural productivity in the Busoga region.
He further revealed that the Kamuli–Iyingo–Kaliro road has been added to the government’s infrastructure plan, signalling increased attention to rural accessibility and economic integration.
The President noted that improved roads will ease the movement of goods, reduce transport costs, and open new markets for local farmers and small businesses, aligning with the broader government agenda of wealth creation.
The Buyende rally was attended by several senior government leaders and NRM officials who accompanied the President as he presented the party’s 2026–2031 Manifesto. Supporters welcomed the team with enthusiasm, underscoring the district’s strong historical ties to the ruling party.
President Museveni’s message in Buyende reinforces the NRM’s campaign theme of defending Uganda’s peace and advancing development through infrastructure, education, and economic transformation. With road improvements underway and renewed calls for unity and discipline, the President assured residents that the Movement remains committed to consolidating achievements and addressing remaining gaps.
As the campaign trail continues across the country, Buyende becomes another critical stop where the President has reconnected with communities, outlined the next phase of the NRM agenda, and rallied support for continuity and stability. .
