In Omoro, Museveni Warns Against Divisive Politics, Urges Focus on Household Wealth
Addressing thousands of enthusiastic supporters who thronged the rally grounds, President Museveni expressed gratitude to the people of Omoro for their warm welcome and unwavering support for the ruling NRM government.

OMORO DISTRICT — President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Presidential flag bearer, on Tuesday continued his nationwide campaign trail with a rally in Omoro District, where he urged Ugandans to uphold the principles of unity, hard work, and wealth creation for sustainable prosperity.
Addressing thousands of enthusiastic supporters who thronged the rally grounds, President Museveni expressed gratitude to the people of Omoro for their warm welcome and unwavering support for the ruling NRM government.
“I thank the people of Omoro for the warm welcome they gave us today. I reminded them that the NRM is everywhere; East, West, North, and South, because it stands for good politics: the politics of unity and non-discrimination. Down with the politics of tribe and religion!”
President Museveni declared. He emphasized that Uganda’s progress under the NRM has been anchored on unity, peace, and discipline — the pillars that have enabled the country to achieve stability and development across regions.
Unity as the Foundation of Progress
The President cautioned against divisive politics based on tribal or religious identity, noting that such tendencies threaten national cohesion and derail development efforts.
“It is by this unity and discipline that Uganda has moved forward. Even God has been with the NRM,” he said, adding that Uganda’s remarkable transformation in sectors such as infrastructure, education, and energy stems from the government’s commitment to inclusive governance.
Museveni further reminded the people of Northern Uganda of the NRM’s historical role in restoring peace and order after years of instability and conflict, stressing that the government remains focused on consolidating that peace through economic empowerment initiatives.
NRM’s Record in Development and Oil Discovery
In his address, the President highlighted the NRM government’s milestone achievements, particularly in infrastructure and natural resource management. He drew applause when he referenced Uganda’s oil discovery, which he said symbolizes the blessings that have come with NRM’s leadership.
“The British, who stayed here for decades, failed to discover our oil and gave up in 1956, yet NRM came and found it,” Museveni said. “We shall now use this resource to ensure a qualitative leap into higher middle-income status.”
The President assured Ugandans that the government’s long-term development agenda seeks to harness the oil resource for industrialization, job creation, and improved service delivery.
Wealth Creation as a Personal Responsibility
In his characteristically humorous yet practical manner, Museveni reminded the gathering that while government infrastructure projects benefit everyone, individual prosperity depends on personal effort and mindset.
“I asked the people: Do you sleep on the tarmac road at night? Of course not. When you go home after this rally, poverty will be waiting for you. It will say, ‘Afwoyo binu, welcome back, we are still here,’” he told the cheering crowd.
The President stressed that government development programs — such as roads, electricity, and hospitals — provide an enabling environment, but the real fight against poverty must be waged at household level.
“Our people should not be diverted by government development projects. The roads, electricity, hospitals — those are for all of us. But poverty is personal, and wealth is personal,” he emphasized.
He encouraged residents to embrace the NRM’s wealth creation message by engaging in productive enterprises under initiatives like the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga, aimed at empowering families to enter the money economy.
President Museveni concluded his message by revealing that his campaign trail would continue in Lamwo District and later in Gulu City, where he is expected to interact with various community groups and leaders to further popularize the NRM’s development agenda.
“Listen to the NRM message on wealth creation. We shall continue tomorrow in Lamwo and Gulu City,” he said.
The rally in Omoro is part of the President’s broader effort to consolidate support for the NRM in Northern Uganda, a region that has in recent years registered significant growth in agriculture, infrastructure, and education due to targeted government interventions.
President Museveni’s 2025/2026 campaign trail focuses on strengthening household incomes, consolidating peace, and preparing the country for transition into an upper middle-income economy. His message to citizens emphasizes mindset change — encouraging Ugandans to view wealth creation as a personal mission within the enabling environment provided by government.
The NRM continues to rally support under the themes of “Protecting The Gains” and “Prosperity for All,” with President Museveni reaffirming that unity, peace, and economic productivity remain the backbone of Uganda’s transformation journey.
