Nambi Faridah Declares Bid for Kawempe North MP By-Election on NRM Ticket

The former Kampala Woman MP candidate and founder of the Nambi Kintu Foundation Union, Nambi Faridah, has officially declared her candidacy for the upcoming Kawempe North by-election on the NRM ticket.
Nambi made the announcement this week during a consultative meeting organized by the Electoral Commission and key stakeholders in Kawempe, where she vowed to build on the legacy of the late Muhammad Ssegirinya, the former Kawempe North MP, who recently passed away. She pledged to continue efforts to develop the division and improve the welfare of its residents.
The by-election is scheduled for March 13, and Nambi has called on voters to support her vision for a better Kawempe.
Addressing her supporters, Nambi emphasized her dedication to improving children’s rights and sanitation in the area, which she described as critical issues affecting the people of Kawempe North.
“I am here to continue the legacy of service and development. My priority will be improving children’s welfare, addressing sanitation challenges, and ensuring that our communities thrive,” she stated. She urged voters not to segregate based on party affiliation, emphasizing that her service is for all people in Kawempe, regardless of political differences.
Nambi’s bid on the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket is expected to shape the dynamics of the by-election, as the party seeks to strengthen its presence in Kampala. Kawempe North has traditionally been a battleground constituency, with opposition parties dominating past elections.
Her grassroots approach and track record in philanthropy through the Nambi Kintu Foundation Union could give her an edge in the race, as she promises practical solutions to some of the community’s longstanding issues.
Nambi has placed children’s rights and sanitation at the center of her campaign, pledging to advocate for policies and programs that benefit young people and improve hygiene standards in schools and public spaces.
“Kawempe deserves better. Our children must have access to education, healthcare, and protection from abuse. We also need to address the sanitation crisis to prevent diseases and improve the quality of life for our people,” she added.
The Electoral Commission is expected to finalize the election roadmap soon, setting the stage for what is likely to be a highly contested race.
With Nambi now in the running, the NRM camp will be looking to mobilize strong support in the division. Meanwhile, opposition parties are also gearing up to field their candidates, making Kawempe North a constituency to watch in the coming weeks.
As the campaigns take shape ahead of the March 13 polls, residents of Kawempe North will be keen to hear from all candidates about their plans to address the pressing issues facing the division.
