Nakaseke, Uganda – The Deputy Secretary General of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), Rt. Hon. Namayanja Rose Nsereko, has urged the people of Nakaseke to embrace poultry farming as a means of transforming livelihoods and contributing to national development.

Namayanja made these remarks while addressing farmers from the Billionaires Club, a group under the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church, at an event aimed at empowering local farmers with knowledge on agribusiness and economic self-reliance. A seasoned poultry farmer herself, Namayanja, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Kande Poultry Farm in Semuto Town Council, Ssebagaala Zone, shared insights into her personal journey of raising over 110,000 chickens on less than an acre of land.

Speaking to the enthusiastic farmers, Namayanja emphasized the importance of resource efficiency in poultry farming. She credited her success to the cage system, a poultry rearing method that allows for optimal use of space while minimizing feed waste and disease spread.

“On less than an acre of land, I rear over 110,000 chickens. One might ask how I do it, but the answer is very simple—I use the cage system. This method has helped me save on chicken feed and prevent the spread of diseases, among other benefits,” Namayanja explained.

A prominent political figure, Namayanja identifies as "70% a farmer" and advocates for practical approaches to agribusiness. “Small spaces can yield big results if we’re resourceful,” she stated, inspiring farmers to explore options within their means.

At the event, Namayanja outlined three fundamental principles that have propelled Kande Poultry Farm to success: breed selection, nutrition, and proper management. She noted that Uganda’s favorable climate, which supports two farming seasons annually, provides an excellent opportunity for poultry farming to meet both local and regional demand.

“With the right breed, quality nutrition, and effective management, poultry farming can be a lucrative venture,” Namayanja emphasized.

She highlighted the potential of poultry farming to not only provide food security but also serve as a source of employment and economic growth.

Namayanja praised the Billionaires Club for fostering a strong network of business-minded individuals across various sectors, including agribusiness, trade, and manufacturing. She emphasized the role of entrepreneurship in national development and financial independence.

“Members of this club actively contribute to Uganda’s development by paying taxes, creating employment, and generating income,” she remarked. Stressing the importance of economic self-sufficiency, she urged Ugandans to diversify their income streams beyond formal jobs and politics.

“We can’t depend only on politics or formal jobs—business is how we lift ourselves and our communities,” she asserted.

Entrepreneurs and poultry farmers in attendance lauded Namayanja for sharing her knowledge and experience. Ben Obed, a fellow poultry farmer, spoke about how visiting Kande Poultry Farm transformed his approach to poultry rearing.

“Seeing what’s possible pushes us to learn and adapt, whether through technology or simple improvements,” he said, underscoring the value of continuous learning and innovation in agribusiness.

Vincent Kasozi, Director of Bangafi Group of Companies, expressed gratitude to Namayanja for hosting the event, calling it an opportunity to network and grow.

“Wealth comes from understanding opportunities and making smart choices,” he said, reinforcing the importance of knowledge and strategy in business success.

Namayanja’s engagement with the farmers of Nakaseke serves as a testament to the transformative power of agribusiness in fostering economic growth. Through her advocacy for efficient poultry farming, she continues to inspire farmers to harness their resources for maximum productivity.

With Uganda’s agricultural sector poised for growth, embracing modern farming methods such as the cage system in poultry farming could significantly enhance food production, employment, and national revenue. As Namayanja and other business leaders rally farmers towards financial independence, the future of agribusiness in Uganda looks promising.
