President Museveni Highlights Unity, Health Gains and Wealth Creation at Butambala NRM Rally
Fresh from the Christmas break, the President arrived in Butambala accompanied by First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Kataaha Museveni, and senior NRM leaders. The rally brought together party officials, local government leaders and residents from across the district.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Monday afternoon addressed a National Resistance Movement (NRM) campaign rally in Butambala District, using the platform to reflect on Uganda’s transformation from instability to unity, while reaffirming his government’s commitment to wealth creation, service delivery and infrastructure development.
Fresh from the Christmas break, the President arrived in Butambala accompanied by First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Kataaha Museveni, and senior NRM leaders. The rally brought together party officials, local government leaders and residents from across the district.
Addressing the gathering, President Museveni emphasized that the NRM’s message to Ugandans is anchored on tangible achievements rather than political pledges.
“What we speak about are not promises but facts—what we have already done and what we are building on,” Museveni told supporters.
He reminded residents that Uganda was once plagued by division and ungovernability, but has since made significant strides in fostering national cohesion.
“Uganda was once ungovernable; today we are united across tribe, religion and gender,” the President said, attributing the stability to the NRM’s ideology of patriotism and inclusive governance.
Health Services and Local Development Gains
President Museveni commended Butambala District for progress in healthcare delivery, noting that all seven sub-counties now have at least one health facility. He described access to basic health services as a key pillar of social transformation and pledged continued government support to improve staffing, equipment and service quality.
In a further boost to local development, the President committed to establishing a permanent Presidential Skilling Hub in Butambala. The initiative, part of a wider national strategy, aims to equip young people with practical skills to enhance employability, entrepreneurship and self-reliance.
Museveni also pledged to improve the Mitala Maria–Bulo–Kanoni road, underscoring the importance of transport infrastructure in supporting trade, agriculture and access to markets.
“Good roads are essential for wealth creation because they connect farmers and traders to the money economy,” he said.
A key focus of the rally was the Parish Development Model (PDM), which the President described as a deliberate intervention to move households from subsistence into the money economy.
He urged residents to actively participate in income-generating activities, stressing that government programmes can only succeed if citizens take personal initiative.
Museveni highlighted the success story of Rashidah Namubiru, a PDM beneficiary from Butambala who started with goats and land and has since multiplied her livestock and income.
“This is a clear example of wealth creation and success at the household level. This is the way to defeat poverty,” the President said, drawing applause from the crowd.
He encouraged communities to learn from such examples, emphasizing discipline, hard work and proper utilization of government support.
As he concluded his address, President Museveni urged Ugandans to safeguard peace and unity, describing stability as the foundation upon which all development efforts depend.
“Let us continue building peace, unity and wealth,” he said, calling on supporters to back the NRM in the forthcoming electoral processes.
Local leaders at the rally praised the President for sustained investments in health, roads and wealth-creation programmes, saying these interventions have begun to change livelihoods across the district.
The Butambala rally forms part of President Museveni’s ongoing engagements with communities across the country, as the NRM mobilizes support around its record in governance, service delivery and economic transformation.
