President Museveni Rallies Support in Obongi and Moyo, Pledges Infrastructure and Wealth Creation Projects

WEST NILE REGION — President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the NRM Presidential flag bearer, has continued his nationwide campaign trail with renewed focus on wealth creation and infrastructural development in the West Nile sub-region, addressing enthusiastic crowds in Obongi and Moyo districts.

Speaking to residents in Obongi, President Museveni reflected on his first visit to the area in 1979, recalling the region’s isolation and underdevelopment. He noted that one of the major steps his government took was to elevate Obongi to district status to empower local leadership and bring services closer to the people.

“When I first went to Obongi in 1979, I saw their isolation and understood the challenges. That’s why, when we entered government, we worked to create Obongi District so they could have their own corner,” the President said.

He announced that the government has already secured funds to extend electricity to Obongi District — a move expected to boost investment, improve livelihoods, and attract more economic activity. Additionally, Museveni assured residents that work on the road network is underway to ensure the district is no longer cut off from the rest of the country.

Beyond infrastructure, the President emphasized the importance of household income generation through productive enterprises, particularly fish farming.

“We will buy equipment and dig fish ponds for the people, then hand them over. Fish farming is highly profitable — from one acre, I earn over 100 million shillings,” he revealed, urging locals to embrace government programs and work with the NRM to achieve sustainable wealth creation.

He reiterated that the government’s priority is to ensure that every household transitions from subsistence farming to commercial agriculture, aligning with the Parish Development Model (PDM) vision of transforming 39% of households still working for the stomach into participants in the money economy.

Later, while addressing thousands in Moyo District, President Museveni extended a similar message of transformation and economic empowerment. He cautioned against the culture of working merely for subsistence, emphasizing the need for every Ugandan to build a stable livelihood.

“Today in Moyo, I reminded our people that too many are still working for the stomach only. That is not enough. Every Ugandan must build a stable livelihood,” he said.

Highlighting government achievements in the area, Museveni cited the success of the Moyo Skilling Hub, which has already trained over 600 youth in practical skills to enhance employability and self-reliance. The President revealed plans to expand the initiative further and support Youth SACCOs with capital to kickstart enterprises.

Infrastructure development remains a cornerstone of the NRM government’s agenda in the West Nile region. Museveni announced the ongoing upgrading of the Koboko–Yumbe–Moyo road, aimed at improving market access and regional connectivity. He also revealed that electricity will soon reach Otce and Laropi, further stimulating local economic growth.

In line with his vision to utilize the natural resources of the region, the President unveiled plans to transform the Nile Valley into a chain of fish ponds — a move intended to create jobs, promote aquaculture, and boost exports.

Through the Parish Development Model (PDM), Moyo District has already received UGX 14.1 billion, benefiting over 14,000 households, Museveni said. He urged residents to ensure proper use of the funds and remain vigilant against misuse.

The President concluded by calling upon the people of Moyo and Obongi to continue supporting the National Resistance Movement (NRM), assuring them that the party’s track record and ongoing projects represent a solid path toward prosperity.

“Voting for the Old Man with the Hat and the NRM is a strategic choice — one that protects Uganda and its future. Nashukuru sana, Moyo,” Museveni told cheering supporters.

As his campaign trail continues, President Museveni’s message remains clear: infrastructure, skills training, and wealth creation form the foundation of his vision for a transformed Uganda where no household is left behind.
