Adventist Church Calls for Calm During Electoral Period in End of Year Message

The Seventh-day Adventist Church has called upon Ugandans to remain calm, peaceful, and united during the electoral period, warning that political differences should not escalate into violence, intimidation, hate speech, or the spread of misinformation.

The call was made on Tuesday during the church’s end of year message to Ugandans by the President of the Uganda Union Mission of the Seventh day Adventist Church, Pastor Samuel Kajoba, while addressing members of the media at the Central Church in Kampala.

Pastor Kajoba said the year 2025 had been guided by the Holy Spirit, unity, and peace, and expressed hope for a peaceful conclusion to the year. He urged citizens to approach the political season with calmness, restraint, and mutual respect.

He noted that in the recent past, the country has experienced incidents of violence, hate speech, and misinformation, particularly involving the youth, who constitute the majority of the population and form the backbone of Uganda’s economy.

The church leader cautioned young people against being manipulated by political actors for personal or political gain, urging them instead to focus on personal growth, productive engagement, and national development.

“Peace and security of the country must always take precedence over individual interests,” Pastor Kajoba said.

He encouraged Ugandans to remain hopeful, noting that the nation remains under God’s care. He added that political participation should promote peace, justice, and mutual respect rather than division.

“Uganda belongs to all of us, and its future is shaped by the choices we make today,” he said.
