President Museveni Commissions DEI Agro-Processing Park, Flags Off First Ugandan Chili Export to China, and Addresses Rally in Kamuli
Accompanied by the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Museveni, the President officially inaugurated the DEI Group Advanced Agro-Processing Park along with a new starch manufacturing plant in Busambo, Namasagali.
Kamuli / Namasagali — President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni today commissioned major industrial and agricultural projects in Busambo, Namasagali, before heading to his second rally of the day in Kamuli District, where he reiterated the National Resistance Movement’s commitment to peace, stability, and household wealth creation.
Commissioning of the DEI Group Advanced Agro-Processing Park
Accompanied by the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Museveni, the President officially inaugurated the DEI Group Advanced Agro-Processing Park along with a new starch manufacturing plant in Busambo, Namasagali. The facilities, established by the DEI Group under the leadership of Mr. Charles M. Magoola, are expected to boost agro-industrialisation in the region and increase value addition for domestic and export markets.
President Museveni hailed Mr. Magoola’s longstanding innovation and resilience, tracing his journey from early research in Matuuga on malaria remedies based on indigenous knowledge to the modern industrial ventures now taking root in Busoga.
“Mr. Magoola has moved steadily from ideas grounded in our ancient knowledge to vibrant industrial progress. These efforts are part of Uganda’s wider march toward wealth creation and transformation,” the President said.
He also thanked the various partners—particularly collaborators from the United States—for supporting Uganda’s agro-industrialisation agenda.
Historic First Container of Ugandan Chili Flags Off for Export to China
During the same event, President Museveni congratulated the People’s Republic of China for its continued cooperation with Africa dating back to 1949. Uganda and China marked a new milestone in bilateral trade as the President and Chinese representatives flagged off the first container of Ugandan chili destined for the Chinese market.
The development signals Uganda’s expanding agricultural export portfolio and the increasing integration of local farmers and agro-processors into global value chains.
“This export is another significant step in our journey to prosperity,” President Museveni remarked, emphasizing that partnerships with global markets play a key role in unlocking Sustainable Wealth Creation opportunities.
NRM Rally in Kamuli: Peace, Stability, and Household Wealth Creation
Later in the day, President Museveni and Maama Janet proceeded to Kamuli District for the second rally, where they were received by large crowds. The President thanked the residents for their warm reception and used the occasion to reflect on the NRM’s legacy over the past four decades.
He underscored that the most fundamental achievement of the NRM government has been the restoration of peace and stability after years of political upheaval—from the crisis of 1966 to the turbulence of subsequent regimes.
“Uganda is peaceful from corner to corner. Without peace, there can be no development or transformation,” he told supporters.
The President revisited a core message from the early days of the Movement: the distinction between development and wealth at household level. He reminded the public that infrastructure—such as roads, schools, electricity, and health centres—constitutes development, while income-generating activities carried out by families constitute wealth.
He reiterated that this understanding formed the basis of the NRM’s socio-economic mobilisation strategy, dating back to the 1960s and later formalised in national programmes.
A significant part of this approach is the four-acre model, first emphasized in the 1996 NRM Manifesto. It encourages families with small land holdings to engage in enterprise selection—mixing crops, livestock, and value addition—to steadily generate household wealth.
“This model remains one of the most practical pathways for rural families to move from subsistence to prosperity,” the President said.
From commissioning modern industrial facilities in Namasagali to opening new doors for Uganda’s agricultural exports, and rallying communities around peace and household prosperity, President Museveni’s engagements in Busoga underscored Uganda’s steady progress on the dual fronts of industrialisation and socio-economic transformation.
The President reaffirmed that partnerships with local innovators, international allies, and empowered citizens remain central to Uganda’s long-term journey to becoming a prosperous, modern nation.
