Warriors Flee Faster Than Their Stolen Cows as Police Recover 120 Head of Cattle in Abim
Abim, Uganda – Police in Abim District successfully recovered 120 head of cattle after engaging in a dramatic standoff with suspected cattle rustlers, who, despite being armed, chose to abandon their loot and flee faster than the cows they had stolen.
The incident, which occurred last week, saw officers exchange fire with the warriors in an intense but casualty-free operation. The suspected thieves, perhaps realizing the police were not in the mood for games, took off, leaving the cattle behind.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Rusoke Kituuma confirmed the recovery during a joint press conference on Monday. “Our officers acted swiftly upon intelligence reports, intercepted the rustlers, and engaged them. Fortunately, there were no casualties, but the suspects escaped, leaving the stolen cattle,” he said.
The operation is part of a broader security effort to clamp down on cattle rustling in the Karamoja sub-region. Authorities have promised to keep the heat on the rustlers, warning that running away may not always be an option.
ACP Kituuma urged locals to cooperate with security agencies and report any suspicious activity to prevent future thefts. Meanwhile, the recovered cattle are expected to be returned to their rightful owners as investigations continue.
With intensified patrols and ongoing crackdowns, one thing is clear: in Abim, crime doesn’t pay, and sometimes, even cows are too much to handle when the police come knocking.
