SBG Securities Rolls Out USD Investment Fund to Strengthen Wealth Protection Strategies

Kampala, Uganda – March 30, 2026 — SBG Securities Uganda Limited has unveiled a new USD Fixed Income Unit Trust Fund, marking a significant step in expanding its multi-currency investment portfolio and offering clients greater flexibility in wealth management.

The newly introduced fund complements the firm’s existing Uganda Shilling (UGX)-denominated unit trust, enabling investors to diversify their portfolios across currencies at a time when global markets remain volatile. The move reflects a growing demand for investment solutions that can withstand external shocks, including geopolitical instability and fluctuating energy prices, which continue to influence currency performance and returns worldwide.

Speaking at the launch, Chief Executive Officer Grace Semakula emphasized the importance of diversification in today’s uncertain economic climate. She noted that while the Uganda Shilling remains a strong foundation for domestic investment, exposure to foreign currency assets—particularly in US dollars—provides an added layer of resilience for investors navigating global risks.

“Our USD Fixed Income Unit Trust Fund complements our UGX offering by giving clients flexibility as they navigate their different investment needs,” Semakula said, adding that the new product is designed to help investors hedge against currency fluctuations while still benefiting from opportunities in the local economy.

The introduction of the USD investment option is part of the company’s broader strategy to build a robust, multi-product investment suite. According to Semakula, SBG Securities aims to continue innovating and expanding its offerings to meet the evolving needs of Ugandan investors.

The fund primarily invests in USD-denominated short-term fixed and floating-rate debt instruments. These include securities issued by sovereign governments, rated banks, and corporate entities across East Africa and offshore markets, providing a relatively stable income stream for investors seeking lower-risk exposure.

Salima Katamba, Investment Manager at SBG Securities, highlighted the accessibility of unit trust investments, noting that they are particularly suited for individuals looking to build wealth gradually.

“Someone can collect smaller amounts of money over time. Even without a large initial capital outlay, investors can steadily grow their portfolios through consistent contributions,” Katamba explained.

The USD Fixed Income Unit Trust Fund is designed with flexibility in mind. Investors can start with a minimum initial investment of USD 100, with additional top-ups of the same amount. The structure allows clients to contribute and withdraw funds at their convenience, making it suitable for both new and experienced investors.

Clients can access both the USD and UGX investment options through the SBG Securities website, its physical offices, and branches of its sister institution, Stanbic Bank Uganda, located across the country.

The launch aligns with the broader vision of Standard Bank Group—Africa’s largest banking group by assets—to deepen financial inclusion and expand access to investment products. By introducing multi-currency investment options, SBG Securities is positioning itself as a key player in Uganda’s evolving financial landscape.

As global economic conditions remain fluid, the firm is reinforcing its role not just as a provider of investment products, but as a trusted partner offering expert guidance. Semakula underscored this commitment, stating that investors today require more than access—they need insight, stability, and informed support to build resilient portfolios.

SBG Securities Uganda Limited operates under Stanbic Uganda Holdings Limited and is a licensed member of the Uganda Securities Exchange. The firm provides a range of services including brokerage, advisory, and investment solutions across equities, fixed income, and collective investment schemes.

With the introduction of the USD Fixed Income Unit Trust Fund, SBG Securities is set to enhance investor confidence and participation in capital markets, offering practical tools for wealth creation and preservation in an increasingly interconnected global economy.
